Dechkoff Farms 31.03.2021

Had to stop and admire this skookum guy standing in the winter sun relaxing today. Ten years old and still going strong while staying the complete gentleman he has always been. He has been such a great bull for our little farm. His calves are all easy going and hardy. Not to mention adorable. We hope that the he is with us for a few more years yet, living the good easy life.

After a very busy fall harvesting hay, dealing with our first predator encounters, and preparing for winter's arrival amongst all the craziness that 2020 brought us all, we are pretty excited for what we have planned for our little farm for 2021 and the years ahead! We welcomed some new additions to the farm in the past month with our first livestock guardian pups, Sirius, Amber and Jade, that are keeping us on our toes as we learn. Also 2 lovely little heifers, Hope and Ha...zel, that fit right in with our friendly and quiet cowherd. Plus we have just finished breeding season for our sheep for May-June lambing. With restrictions sounding like they may start to be lifted a bit in the near future and the daylight noticeably returning, we hope all of our friends and neighbours are looking forward to the spring and summer ahead and that we get to see you all very soon!

It has been a busy July at the farm as everyone has grown enough to be moved out to roam in the rolling hills and trees of their summer pastures while we focus on gathering our winter's supply. I wish I could post and share the heady scent of clover and freshly cut hayfield curing in the breeze. Fingers and toes crossed that mother nature lets us have a few more of these perfectly hot, breezy days. Maybe, just maybe it will be a good hay year afterall....happy haying to all our fellow farmers, near and far!

Too cute not to post one more tonight. Celeste and Aries, our two bottle babies, discovering while hanging out with us in the yard this afternoon that my pansies are not only edible but apparently are tasty as well.

Lol. We now know how much damage to the garden a few little rebelious fence crawling lambs can do....I think they are big enough now that it is time they go out to their summer pasture to grow up eating lush green pastures and snoozing amongst the trees. And no longer in our garden....brats
