Today is National Puzzle Day apparently which I was not aware of. I remember when the first Covid lock down happened in March of last year, my daughters and I quickly went out and bought a bunch of puzzles and new games to entertain ourselves while we all wondered when this pandemic would end. Hard to believe that is going to be almost a year when this craziness all happened. And we're now into our 2nd officialy lockdown. Are you a fan of bay or bow windows? I'm not a huge fan. Sure, from an exterior architectural viewpoint they can be pretty but inside the room its just wasted space for me as a designer. Does your small business have a tagline? Does it have meaning for you, your brand and business? I'm almost finished reading Studio Mcgee's (@studiomcgee) first book called "Make Like Beautiful" and thoroughly enjoying learning about their journey into interior design. Their company tag line is also "Make Life Beautiful" which got me thinking about my tagline. Mine is "Where Style Meets Home" and has been a part of my branding since I first started 12 yrs ago!!!! But I r...arely use it when I communicate on social media which is really quite sad because it actually reflects the way I think about a client's home as I start the design process. I've always been a true believer that your home should reflect your style and personality and how easily fashion and interiors intersect on so many levels. I was thinking of the true fashion icons while brainstorming my tagline so many years ago. My inspirations was of course, Coco Chanel and YSL. My tagline evolved from the belief of these favourite quotes of mine: - "Fashions fade. Style is eternal" -- one of my favourites from YSL - "Fashion is what you buy. Style is what you do with it" -- Unknown. You can easily replace fashion with the word Decor, and the statement is still true! - "The best colour in the whole world is the one that looks good on you" - Coco Chanel - "Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak" -- Rachel Zoe @rachelzoe These memorable quotes truly resonate with me and my design style. As much as I love reading about all the new trends that come out each year, I rarely try to dictate them into a client's interior project. Classic will always be in style for me. (yea, that means you white subway tile!) My design motto has always been "Decorate As You Dress!" I think I need to start communicating that a bit more loudly.
