Some people find their niche early in life; and that is certainly true for one of our cherished colleagues. Last month, Blair Laxdale, financial advisor, from our financial centre in Hamilton, ON celebrated 50 years with our firm. Blair started with the company on Aug. 15, 1969. For those of you who dont remember, or werent even born, that was the opening day of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair known simply as Woodstock. Perhaps, Blair felt it was just some music festiv...al that no one would ever remember. Over his 50 years with the company, Blair would make his own notable history. He had many years of top awards with Eaton Financial Services, Laurentian Financial Services and the Imperial Life Assurance Company all of these are former names of our organisation. For 21 straight years he was in the top ten of the Presidents Club, and in 1990 he was the number one advisor for the entire company. Blair continues to serve his clients with his vast knowledge, experience and gentle charm. We know that success runs the family because Blairs daughter, Brigit Cuzen, is following in her fathers footsteps. Congratulations, Blair! Continuing with their effort in helping local communities, our Calgary office once again outdid themselves and raised more than $28,000 in their 5th annual charity golf tournament Swing for the CURE. This year, the proceeds go to The Mustard Seed, a charity organization that focuses on creating holistic and innovative solutions to eliminate homelessness and poverty in Alberta from prevention to providing permanent sustainable housing and employment. On a sunny day at the gorg...eous Valley Ridge Golf Club, our team of advisors, representative from the network head office and many local sponsors gave their best swings for a good cause. Big cheques were presented to Mustard Seed by Phillip Soulodre, DFSIN Regional VP, at the evening gala. A big shoutout to Simon Ma, founder and organizer of Swing for the CURE and his co-organizers Darren Grierson and Scott Shaw, all of whom are advisors from the Caglary office.

Bill Clunas, a financial advisor and sales manager from our London office, has been a reserve soldier with the Canadian Armed Forces for over 25 years. During the spring flooding in April and May in the Ottawa area, Cpl. Clunas was deployed with his unit. I was gone for a week and we stayed and worked in the area between Westmeath and Pembroke, says Bill. Although he is modest, his unit faced some challenging work having to fill, deliver and place sandbags around roads and houses. He also travelled to houses already cut off by the water to perform welfare checks and deliver bottled water. In many cases they needed boats because the water was too deep for hip waders. Thank you, Bill for supporting people in their time of need.
