I’m not one to make New Year resolutions, but this year I made a promise to myself to be better. Not just better to others, but also better to myself, as well as to do better at various things in my life. I’ve decided this will be a year of personal growth for me. I’ve been ridding myself of some lifelong bad habits in exchange for self-love, patience (which has proven difficult for me), awareness and education. I’ve been fortunate to cross paths with some amazing guests at ...the salon who are pretty inspirational and have gifted me some small treasures such as this book and day-starting mantra, which are good reminders to breathe and realign my mind and body. This guest had realistic expectations and actually wanted red, which was totally achievable with the color she had. A rich, chocolatey balayage. This hair looked good freshly done and even as it grew out. My guest would retouch her regrowth every few months and we would tone the old balayage down once in a while, it kept it looking fresh the whole way through To me, this is what a balayage truly is- a technique to make the hair look as though you had been out in the sun all summer Which do you prefer- a soft blend or an extreme dark to light balayage? Took this beauty from a mousy natural brown to this gorgeous, shiny plum It’s funny how sometimes the most unnatural of colors can look so natural on some people. Not sure if any of you have read about this yet, but here’s something to chew on! This is the same class action as has been taken against other companies (eg: Monat, which is also not a professional brand). As a stylist, I cannot stress enough- PLEASE BE AWARE OF WHAT PRODUCTS YOU PUT ON YOUR HAIR! Honestly- we are not here just to upswell you professional products to line our own pockets. It’s because we are TRAINED to know chemical compositions of hair colors and products, and we truly want the best for you and your hair.

Round 2 of balayage on this INCREDIBLY THICK head of BLACK hair! Balayage is a lengthy technique, even on finer/thinner hair. This client takes me 5 hours, I’ll break down why: *Like I said- THICK BLACK HAIR *Placing and back combing every section is a detail oriented task *Due to the thickness of her hair, each section requires a lot of product saturation... *I mix fresh lightener often, because she has a ton of hair and because fresh lightener works best (pretty sure I used about 400 grams of lightener alone on this head) *I use @olaplex in my lightener and as a post-lightener treatment, and it needs time to process at the sink after rinsing *Toner has to process for 20 minutes *Shampoo/condition/blowdry/curl takes about an hour Color services just ain’t the same ol’ 2-2.5 hours anymore, folks! Blended, healthy hair takes time and patience. I will mention that not one hair on this head is damaged, because I mix a low volume of lightener and use Olaplex every step of the way Love this look? Loving these warm tones for fall and winter My client came in with grown out blonde highlights and wanted to go more natural but with a kick. We chose this shade, which is on level with her natural hair but with a little gold for richness. This way her regrowth will be minimal and her hair feels soft and healthy. You should have seen her blue eyes POP with this color

This girl is normally a FULL blonde highlight along with fun tips. We covered up the remaining blonde to one shade darker than her own natural and refreshed the fun ends, rather than trying to correct of cover them. I can’t get over how NATURAL this color is on top! I’m sure some of you have seen this video floating around. If not, please do have a watch. It is SHOCKING. I’m gonna weigh in here, and let’s all be respectful: We all know a Robin/Karen After watching this video, I went to this stylist’s page and listened to her story regarding this client. Robin has a LONG history of being discriminatory, disrespectful and demanding. The client’s own family even contacted the stylist, wanting to pay the stylist for her time (which the ...stylist did not accept). So many people feel when they are not satisfied with a service that it is ok to be rude, because service providers are being paid to do their job so they should do it properly. Well, I’ll tell you- I had a client sort of like this and I let her go. NO AMOUNT OF MONEY IS ENOUGH TO PUT UP WITH ABUSE OF ANY KIND! This video is a great reminder to keep calm and collected, no matter what is thrown at you. Our behaviors dictate the rest of our days, so we should all choose to have a great day and make it a good one for someone else as well.

Barely-there babylights for grey blending Babylights are an awesome way to subtly brighten brunette hair without going maintenance-crazy. And this particular color was done WITHOUT using bleach, so no risk of the hair over-lightening as time passed on

This was our second round of lightening Jessica’s hair, with the goal of smoky silver dark blonde hair In all my 18 years of hair coloring, I can confidently state that this girl has THE MOST hair I’ve ever done! Now here is a client who has done it right Carol used to be a platinum bleach & tone. After a while she decided that her roots weren’t so bad and she wanted to continue growing them out to her full, natural state. All we have done since then is throw on a silver toner every now and again while she uses the proper at-home care in between appointments, which include a silver-depositing conditioner and shampoo & conditioner for color-treated hair @wellahair

5 hours later and we are close to our goal! When going from black to blonde (even when it’s natural black, as in this pic), we need to keep our expectations realistic. What is most important to me is the integrity of the hair. I would rather go at a color correction slowly while maintaining the health of the hair, rather than power blasting it with bleach, because once the hair is compromised the only thing left to do is cut it off This client is actually a bit lighter and cooler than is shown in this pic, and NOT ONE HAIR broke.
