What might be causing your immune system to be working at a less than optimal level? Diet high in saturated or hydrogenated fat High surgery foods (4 grams of sugar is the equivalent of 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of sugar lowers the immune system for 5 hours) Nutrient deficiencies Poor gut flora aka lacking the "good bacteria" in the gut... Lack of fruit and vegetables Lack of essential fatty acids such as fish and flax seeds Excessive alcohol, drugs or smoking Chemical pollutants Stress Lack of sleep Try these nutrition tips to keep your immune system running optimally: Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Eat what you can raw and lightly steam the rest. Ensure your diet is high in quality protein. Eat essential fats in the form of oily fish such as salmon, trout, and tuna. Try raw nuts and seeds as a snack as these fats are essential for boosting immune function. Use organic coconut oil for cooking. Consume whole grains. Eat freshly-made soups loaded with veggies, garlic and onions. Try fresh vegetable juices such as carrot, apple and ginger. Avoid sugar and refined carbohydrates. Reduce your intake of caffeine and alcohol. Avoid all processed foods

Bone Broth Bone broth is a great source of gelatin and glutamine, which can be very healing for the body. Bone broth can be purchased at health food or specialty stores. Store-bought will not be gelatinous and will probably not taste as good as the one you make at home. However, it is a time-saver which may be what you need and using it with the other ingredients in another recipe will add to the flavour. Ingredients... 4 lbs. or 1.8 kg bones (chicken, turkey, beef) 1 onion cut into quarters (leave the skin on) 2 carrots, each cut in half (do not peel) 2 stalks of celery, each cut in half 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar 6 peppercorns 1/2 bunch parsley 2 bay leaves (optional) Directions Place all the ingredients in a 16 or 20-quart pot. Fill the pot with water. Bring to a boil and lower to a simmer. Cover but leave it slightly ajar to let out the stream or it will take much longer. Let it simmer until the water level is reduced by half. As it simmers, use a sieve to remove any froth that surfaces. It can take 10-14 hours to do this depending on the temperature and how much the lid is left ajar exposing the broth to air and increased evaporation. Strain out the broth using a large sieve or a metal colander. Transfer the broth into containers with lids in 2-3 cup portions. Store in the freezer or put in the refrigerator if using immediately. Broth can be seasoned with sea salt and pepper if desired.

A dysfunctional thyroid can affect almost every aspect of your health. Imbalances of the thyroid are connected to many hormone issues. These can include breast cancer, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, infertility, postpartum depression, miscarriage, PMS, amenorrhea (no cycles) and menorrhagia (heavy cycles). Hypothyroidism or under active thyroid is often linked with adrenal fatigue, estrogen dominance and progesterone deficiency. Watch the video and read the full post. I have several patients come to the clinic saying that they had their thyroid tested through their family doctor and the test came back **within normal ranges**. But the patient is still feeling like something is "off" and they are still struggling with symptoms daily. What might be happening?... A full assessment of thyroid function is needed to determine the complete picture. Testing should include a minimum of TSH, free T4, free T3 and Thyroid Antibodies (TPOab). Unfortunately, TSH is usually the only marker to be tested by family physicians and the rest get missed. In addition, the normal range for TSH in Canada is almost double in comparison to our neighbors in the United States. For these reasons, many of us are needlessly struggling with chronic health issues. Book an appointment and let me help you get to the root of your symptoms: https://www.drcobi.com/booking

Specializing in hormone imbalances in my practice brings in many women that are struggling with issues occurring in menopause. Two of the most common complaints are hot flashes and night sweats. Nearly 75% of women begin to struggle with these issues in perimenopause which is the years leading up to menopause, usually ages 40-50. For some women, hot flashes and night sweats can continue for up to 10 years or longer after menopause. Learn some common triggers of hot flashes: ...https://www.drcobi.com/blog/all-about-hot-flashes There are many safe and effective natural remedies that do not contain any hormones that help to eliminate hot flashes and night sweats quickly. One remedy that remains a patient favourite is Estrovera.
