Are you dealing with neck tension, headaches, or jaw discomfort? Did you know it is common to carry your stress and tension in your neck? This stretch is a different way of a regular neck stretch and one that will help with some habits we create! Start by lying on your back in a comfortable position. ... Knees can be bent up or straight out in front - whichever is most comfortable! Place one hand on your forehead and let your head relax into the bed or pillow. Now, gently begin to move the head back and forth using your hand. It my help you to imagine you are rolling a melon on top of a cutting board. You may find it hard to relax at first - but feel free to start over a few times, using small movements, until you feel like the neck is just going along for the ride. Once you get into bigger motions, you will notice that the head follows an interesting arc, much like a windshield wiper. Allow this to happen as you gently rotate back and forth, no need to pause at the ends! Keep breathing, and keep monitoring to see if your neck tries to take over. Don't worry how many times you try this, but try to give it 2-3 minutes of your time. Let us know how you did! Comment below #DonaldPhysioCares #ExerciseTipTuesday #yxephysio

Have you ever wondered how to build gluteal (or bum) strength? STEP UPS can be a great exercise to build strength through the gluteal and hamstring muscles. Since it is a single leg exercise, it is very useful to work on asymmetries in strength and balance through the hips and legs. It is also a very functional exercise because nearly all of us have some steps or stairs in our homes.... To perform the Step Up: Place your foot on the step and lean forward at the waist to get your body weight onto you foot. Push through your heel to step up onto the step. Make sure your knee stays over top of your foot and does not move inwards or too far forward past your toes. Common mistakes include: Pushing with your other foot to vault up onto the step Letting your knee move inwards or too far forward past toes. Letting hips rotate so that they don’t stay square during the upwards movement Start with a low step (6-8 height) and then progressively move to higher steps as you get stronger. Trevor will help with any questions! #DonaldPhysioCares #DonaldPhysioYXE #physioyxe #buildstrength #ExerciseTipTuesday

May we never forget. Trevor's grandfather, James Donald, was one of many soldiers who fought at Vimy Ridge during WWI, at one point not taking off his boots for 28 days! James Donald was part of the 6th Battalion, 51st Division of the Gordon Highlanders ... James was not only a veteran, but also a grandfather with a sharp sense of humor. He was always quick with a funny comment and would often give Trevor a loonie and ask how much he had in his bank account. This Remembrance Day, we want to express our gratitude for all those who, like James Donald, served our country and kept our freedom safe. We will be closed on Wednesday November 11. #DonaldPhysioCares #yxephysio #wewillremember

Are you wanting to make changes in your STRENGTH but unsure how? This comes from a learning effect in the nervous system, called Neural Adaptation. ... What this means is the slightest movement can create a change! With some key concepts, you can take a more active role in your exercise planning and even create your own exercises! Join us Wednesday to learn more!
