Don Valley Art Club (DVAC) 17.01.2021

DVAC Artist Showcase on Facebook. A regular FB post featuring one of our club's fabulous artists. Today's showcase artist is: Gwynneth Heaton Featured painting: "Bonfire"... About the artist: Painting since 2000, Gwynneth has taken numerous courses and workshops at the Haliburton School of the Arts as well as at Studio Six. Those who have probably influenced her the most are Brian Atyeo, Jay Dampf, Steve Rose, and Don Cavin. Starting with water colours, she now paints exclusively in acrylics. She loves to paint from landscapes and interprets the scenes often realistically but also in abstract mode. Animals and birds are sometimes subjects of her art. She has shown her work with various groups including the Willowdale Group of Artists, the Don Valley Art Club, and the Art Council of Haliburton Highlands. She won Best abstract in show and Honourable Mention for her abstracts in two Don Valley Art Club shows. About the featured painting: The painting Bonfire is a depiction of a bonfire and how we see it while sitting around a campfire at the lake.

Friday Night Artist Talk Review November 6th - Anthony Vandertuin Over 45 DVAC members signed into Zoom to watch Anthony’s presentation and demo. It was a riveting evening. He began with a showing and description of his current work followed by a demo of a large abstract portrait on birch gallery board. He showed us how he creates his pallet as well as some of his favorite tools to work with. Anthony shared how he works in Values with a 3 colour limited pallet. He never works... with white or black. He creates tints and darks with lighter and darker colours. It was an inspirational night for all who attended. Its not often you get to watch a master of his craft in this way! Thank you so much Anothony. We look forward to an opportunity to study with you at one of your workshops. www.avander.ca (photo review by Nanci Miranda)

Upcoming Friday Night Artist Talk-November 6, 2020 (7pm-9:30pm): (member only event) Anthony Vandertuin The Portaiture, Acrylic... Event Location: DVAC Zoom Event Description: My presentation will show a variety of portrait-based works as well as a number of abstract landscapes. I will speak to each of the pieces briefly while they are on screen and answer any questions as they come up. In the demo portion of my presentation, I will begin a new piece. We will see how far I get in the time allotted. I will attempt to move fairly quickly on the piece and will comment on my process. Bio Based in Toronto, Anthony creates bold portrait-based paintings. Working rapidly in multiple layers and sessions, he creates works that capture the emotion and essence of a portrait. The paintings explore the human condition through the face, creating an emotional response personal to each viewer. The works feature bold, expressive brushwork and are abstracted from their original source, typically photographs or from memory. Intimate, tactile and engaging, the paintings explore deconstruction and focus, reaching beyond realism to create something more abstract and evocative yet familiar. Anthony’s work can be found in private collections in Toronto, across Canada and in the US. Anthony is an Editorial Illustration graduate (AOCA) of the Ontario College of Art (1985) Website: http://www.avander.ca/ Email: [email protected] Instagram: avender_art (https://www.instagram.com/avander_art/)
