Hi guys sorry to say but we will have to cancel tonight as the ring is still really wet and I have turned it over and thought it would have dried up better by now. It's way to slippery and we don't want to anyone getting hurt humans or animals. Hope to see you all out next week and fingers crossed it's good weather and dry footing.

Double H Ranch will not be holding anymore Ranch Sortings this year due to our farm being quarantined till the end of October. Unfortunately one of our boarder’s horse has developed Strangles due to complications from contracting Potomac Horse Fever. As responsible horse owners, the boarder and ourselves would like to bring attention to our story over the last month. These two infections are very dangerous if contracted by equine, one infection (Strangles) is contagious and t...he other infection ( Potomac Horse Fever) not contagious. A few weeks ago we noticed our boarder’s horse was covered in liquid manure, covering his whole tail and hind legs. We immediately contacted the Vet and owner. The Vet treated the horse, thinking that it was Potomac Horse Fever until the results came back from the lab. Once the results confirmed it we transported the horse to the Ontario Vet College were they treated him for 10 days. The main issue with Potomac Horse Fever is that due to the heat from the fever, the horse can develop crippling Laminitis and must be put down. Fortunately we were able to catch it early and have him treated he never had a fever. Upon his return to our farm we continued to treat him with meds, icing of legs, and stall rest. A couple days after his return we noticed a lump under his jaw, we notified the Vet who diagnosed him with Strangles. The Vet believes that due to his immune system being so low from the Potomac Horse Fever that he could have been a carrier of Strangles and that it broke out in his body. This horse has not come in contact with any horse’s that have been at the farm for any event’s we have held in the last few weeks. This horse has been isolated before he had gone to Ontario Vet College and when he returned home. This is an isolated case no other horse’s on the farm has had any signs of symptom’s and all seem to be in great health and are monitored daily. We have quarantined our farm as a precaution, we have scrubbed and disinfected our whole barn and all gates and fences, we have instituted several protocols with us and our boarders to prevent any contact with the horse. The horse is doing very good with regards to the Potomac Horse Fever and also Strangles and we expect a full recovery. As horse owners we believe it is important to be vigilant with regards to doing daily checks of your horses and property, and to educate ourselves to the various medical issues that our horses may contract. We hope this post will be helpful to our fellow horse owners and if anyone has any questions please feel free to private message us. Thank you Double H Ranch
