BC announces new COVID-19 restrictions for Metro Vancouver health regions. As of 10:00pm November 7, 2020 BC Health Officials have ordered all businesses, recreation centres or other facilities that organize or operate indoor group physical activities to stop holding those activities "until updated COVID-19 safety plans are in place". In compliance with this order, Langley City has suspended all physical activity programming until further notice. Group fitness classes, weig...ht room access and indoor sports programming have been cancelled until approval to operate has been granted. We thank all of our patrons for their patience and understanding as we move through this process. City of Langley Gymnasium Programs The Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department staff are excited to re-open the Gymnasium at Timms Community Centre and Douglas Recreation Centre on October 13th for registered activities. We have implemented new practices and procedures to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We are following the guidelines and recommendations set out by viaSports, the Provincial Sport Organizations (Return to Sport Guidelines), the Provincial... Health Officer, our local health authority, BCRPA and WorkSafe BC. In line with Phase Three of the viaSport Return to Play Guidelines, Pickleball, Badminton, Volleyball and Table Tennis are allowing modified play or casual games based on the recommendation of the Provincial Sport Organization, and have established guidelines for the safety of all involved. At this time Basketball will be limited to individual skill development with a max of TWO people per hoop. No scrimmaging or game play will be allowed. We will continue to evaluate (weekly) gymnasium use and modify activity levels based on the direction of the Provincial Sport Organization and the Province of BC. We have assessed all active spaces and determined how many users can safely participate in our facilities at any given time, based on physical distancing requirements as set out by the Provincial Health Officer. We will increase the frequency and cleaning of all high touch surfaces. Our program focuses on increasing activity and physical literacy in participants through skill building activities, games, and sport. Beyond the Bell runs two (2) hours after the dismissal bell and until 5:30pm on early dismissal days. The program will start on October 13, 2020 and end on June 18, 2021. There will be no scheduled programs on pro-d days, non-instructional days, winter break, spring break and statutory holidays.... Where does Beyond the Bell run? Al Anderson Memorial Pool will open June 29 with enhanced first aid, heightened lifeguard rescue procedures, and reduced swimming hours and capacities, including distance markings. Swimming lessons will not be offered this summer due to COVID-19 physical distancing restrictions; however, public swimming and fitness classes will be permitted with the following pool patron maximums to keep the community safe: 71 people for public swims, including the deck and bleachers 32 peopl...e (4 per lane) for length swims 39 people for Shallow Aquafit classes 11 people for Deep Aquafit Showers will be available on the pool deck. Langley City encourages patrons to shower at home before, and after swimming since access to the change rooms is limited to a one-way flow to encourage physical distancing. Lockers will also not be available during this time. Patrons are now able to reserve their spot, up to an hour before the start of our public swims, length swims, and Aquafit classes through our online recreation registration system http://ow.ly/wGJ650AcKyV or by phoning Al Anderson Memorial Pool at 604.514.2860 starting on June 24.
