A very happy Birthday to Gayle, owner of Antique Alley in Downtown Kingston! #peopleofdowntown #peopleofdowntownYGK The story of Antique Alley began 42 years ago when Gayle's husband Gary opened "Cellar Door Antiques" at the corner of Princess and Wellington. From there, Gayle and Gary moved to a location on Barrie Street before moving to their current location 25 years ago, in what was known as "Alley Cats Antiques", a multi-dealer antique shop. When the owner of "A...lley Cats Antiques" wanted to retire, Gayle bought the business, renamed it "Antique Alley" and since then she and Gary have taken over the full space. Gayle says she loves this because it just lets her and Gary do their own thing and really focus on true antiques and collectibles. When Gayle retired from her full-time job at the Ministry of Health seven years ago, she wanted to do something that aligned the store with her strong passion for customer service. She decided to get into vintage clothing and has since grown a phenomenal collection. Gayle's collection of vintage clothing, called 'Kate's Vintage Closet' after Gayle's daughter Kate, features dresses, shoes, purses, fur, costume jewelry and more! Antique Alley is located on Wellington Street- just a short walk from Princess Street before Queen Street, in the second alley on the north side of the Iron Duke Pub. At first glance, Antique Alley may appear to be a small shop; it is anything but! With over 4500 square feet of fine antiques and collectibles, Gayle and Gary are antiquing professionals and will be glad to assist you in finding what you need, collect, or would just love to own. Although closed right now during the provincial wide lockdown, you can visit the Antique Alley Facebook page for daily updates on inventory! If you see something you like- reach out to Gayle through Facebook, or phone to coordinate a purchase!

Downtown Kingston has a special charm. - David Dossett, Owner of Martello Alley and Martello on Brock #peopleofdowntown #peopleofdowntownYGK David, the owner of Martello Alley, inherited his love of art and painting from his father, who was also a painter. After taking a painting course in high school, and then later painting old real estate signs to decorate his apartment, David realized he had a knack and curiosity for art. This started him on his journey to openi...ng Martello Alley and then Martello on Bock. While wandering through Downtown Kingston, David would come upon the once hidden and forgotten alley, and think to himself wouldn’t this be a great French-themed alley? Why doesn’t someone do something about this place? After a few months, David decided to take action and asked the landlord for permission to create the alley and to open an art gallery. The landlord was happy to have David create in the space and permitted him to do "whatever he wanted". Four months and a lot of hard work later, Martello Alley was single-handedly created, based on David's imagination and an old painting of David’s father. Since opening in 2015, Martello Alley has become a popular destination for art lovers in the local community and across Ontario. Martello Alley may appear to be a small art gallery, but it is so much more. "You're not just going into an art gallery, you're going into an experience. We want to give people the impression that they are in a little French fishing village, complete with a buoy and lighthouse!" says David. At Martello Alley, you can find original and printed artwork from local artists and a featured Canadian artist of the month. David always has an eclectic selection of art, so, no matter what, customers are never bored. Martello Alley is constantly evolving and featuring new local artwork, so if you have already been, there are many reasons to return! David wants his customers to know that if you see something you like, say something or ask! Customers can order anything they see in-store online and have it shipped to their home directly. David can also connect customers with local artists to have pieces commissioned.

Happy 5th Birthday to UNDR for Men Our loyal customers are the best- they are the biggest advertisement that we have. You would never think guys go around talking about their underwear, but they do! - Cindy Baker, Manager of UNDR For Men #peopleofdowntown #peopleofdowntownYGK... UNDR For Men is a local menswear and grooming boutique, owned and operated by best friends Katherine McRae (owner) and Cindy Baker (manager). When their husbands retired from the military, Kathy and Cindy decided they wanted to move back to Kingston, describing the City as the place to be. Kathy had always wanted to open a small shop in Downtown Kingston because of the sense of community and support amongst business owners and local shoppers. Kathy was inspired to focus on menswear after she visited Calgary and Ottawa and realized there was a need in the Kingston market for a specialty mens store. Guys have always just had that little corner in (a store) no where to go to get all the stuff they need thats good quality and has a variety. It has been important to Kathy that UNDR fill a niche that was needed & stock only the best quality products, with a focus on local and Canadian made. Cindy originally started helping Kathy out with fun events like Princess Street Promenade but then it just blossomed from there, says Cindy, It is so much fun. Now Cindy works as store manager at UNDR. Cindy says that her favourite part of the job is when men find quality and something that makes them feel good. She says a lot of men don’t realize it’s a need but once they realize that the most important part of their body can use support and good quality and be comfortable and supported it actually is a big thing. Cindy also emphasizes that UNDR serves everyone. It’s not just men that come in - and that’s really fun! UNDR focuses on providing a range of quality products for men & strives to be a resource in the community for menswear & grooming needs. We try to know everything about our products says Cindy, every single customer gets service, everyone gets asked, everyone gets helped. Stop by UNDR for their Birthday Party and get BOGO 25% OFF the ENTIRE STORE!

You don’t have to be a runner to be a friend of Runners’ Choice- Christina Cantlay, Store Manager & Program Coordinator at Runners' Choice Kingston For over 35 years ‘Runners’ Choice’ has been a part of the Downtown Kingston community. Al Cantlay opened Runners’ Choice in March of 1985 and has been preparing his daughter Christina to take over since she was young. Christina remembers the Saturdays helping her Dad in the stock room fondly, and now shares those same memories ...with her step-children as she prepares to take over from Al. Al and Christina want their customers to know that Runners’ Choice is not just a store for selling shoes, but a community that extends long after you leave the store. We don’t see a sale or a dollar sign. If you spend three minutes in the store and you walk out with nothing, we’re hoping that we can give you the knowledge and the expertise.it goes far beyond just making that sale, says Christina. Al and Christina pride themselves on stocking a shoe for everyone, from VIP feet that require extra care, to an elite runner or just for people trying to make it to the stop sign, Runners’ Choice has a wide range of options. Both Al and Christina say that their motivation comes from fitting someone with a good pair of shoes, and seeing their customers smiling face. An active part of the community, Runners’ Choice collects gently used running shoes all year round and throughout the month of September they are having a shoe drive for the clients of Lunch by George. Shoes can be dropped off at Runners’ Choice or Cher Mere WEST END location. Open 7 days a week, Runners’ Choice continues to offer free local delivery and shop by appointment from 9am-10am & 5pm-6pm (Monday- Friday). Join Runners’ Choice for their weekly workouts; Monday Nights @ 5:30pm: Lagers & Joggers which is hosted by Riverhead Brewing Company and Tuesday Night @ 5:30pm: Memorial Centre Track session coached by Al. All ages and abilities are encouraged to come out!
