Snow day : @that.desiree
We would like to wish Joel Wiebe all the best! Joel has been with the Peterborough Downtown Business Improvement Area since March 2015 as Communications Manager. Today is his last day with us as he joins the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce as the Government Relations Coordinator. "It has been a privilege to get to know the faces of our local businesses, their patrons, the artists, the volunteers, and everyone who helps make up this amazing community in Downtown Peterborough.... I want to thank you all for your incredible dedication to our community. Whether it's part of a local business, shopping and dining locally, or building on our rich arts and culture scene what you do is having a meaningful impact for the heart of this city." said Joel. We also would like to welcome Hillary Flood who will be taking on the role of Communications Manager!
This year continues to have a significant impact on the small business community. The restaurant industry is uniquely and heavily affected by this. The restaurant industry is always known for having thin margins. With the challenges, the margins are ultra-thin. When you plan to "eat out," please consider: - ordering from small independent restaurants; - taking out instead of using the 3rd party delivery services; - ordering restaurant-made meal kits; and... - being extra kind. Thank you, Peterborough, for your continuous support! See more
Now, more than ever, local matters. Small businesses are way better for the local economy than large ones. When you shop at a small business, that money goes back to our community, and it creates 3.5 times more wealth growth for your local economy than shopping at a chain store. Small, locally-owned businesses tend to generate higher incomes for people than large, non-local ones. However, small businesses are way more fragile than big ones and get heavily impacted by the shutdown policies. Many small businesses have adapted online shopping, curbside pickup, home deliveries, and phone consultations. Please support your community by supporting local & small businesses.
The spread of the global pandemic has undoubtedly affected everyone. We cannot stop this, but we can make a choice to help local businesses stay afloat and give small shops and restaurants a fighting chance to rebound. Support local small businesses downtown. Shop The Boro.
'Tis the season to shop small and support local businesses! You want to shop local but don't know where to start? We've got your back! This is The Boro Holiday Gift Guide!

Wear your mask, practice physical-distancing, consider shopping local online, and support local this Black Friday and this holiday season! This year's Black Friday sales might look a little different with some sales starting earlier or running a little later to help customers avoid the crowds. Check out your favourite local shops online and on social media to see what deals they are offering! Starting Black Friday, parking downtown is free for two hours, many thanks to The C...ity of Peterborough. Looking to avoid the crowds altogether and shop safely from home? Shop local online at theboro.ca!
Small businesses are important to the economic and social fabric of our city, and we all play a vital part in their survival. Shop local. Shop The Boro.

What does shopping local mean to you? To us, shopping local means building a community, creating job opportunities, helping the environment, and finding the most unique items! For those of us that love exploring what our city has to offer, everything is now available online. Support our neighbours via theboro.ca!
Many businesses, non-profits, charities, and institutions typically have annual parties for staff and volunteers during the holiday season. However, the staff party season is going to look a little different this year. This year, we want to encourage people to continue to patronize their favourite restaurants, but not in large groups. We would like to encourage employers to provide their staff/volunteers/supporters with gift cards to local restaurants instead of hosting them ...at large parties. Gift cards in lieu of Christmas parties will still give your staff an opportunity to dine out (or in!) safely and support local restaurants that are facing a difficult winter. Our local business community are loyal supporters of local restaurants and continuing that support will help them through a critical part of their recovery from the current COVID-19 crisis. You can find some great local restaurants at the following sites: https://theboro.ca/category/great-eats/ https://downtownptbo.ca/explore/#eat-drink https://web.peterboroughchamber.ca/Restaurants-and-Catering https://thekawarthas.ca/eat-and-drink/ The Peterborough Downtown Business Improvement Area also sells Downtown Dollars that can be used at various downtown restaurants and shops. This is a message from Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development, Peterborough Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Peterborough

Let's make downtown greener! With the partnership with Green Up, we are transforming another under-utilized asphalt surface to a greener and user-friendly space. (Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped us yesterday!) Replacing impermeable asphalt with permeable surfaces and rain gardens helps reduce stormwater flooding and pollution. Unleashing the soil allows water to move and filter through the soil layers naturally while reducing the burden on urban storm water inf...rastructure. Urban green space, no matter how small, can help reduce urban heat island effect. Replacing the chain-link fence and asphalt on George Street North with green vertical space will also beautify this streetscape and introduce green life to the heart of our downtown. Together we are creating green, permeable space to protect the natural water movement in our urban areas. By creating spaces like this we protect our urban areas from increases in flooding and pollution and restore pockets of natural space for the water, wildlife and people!
Now is the time for us to rally around our locally owned small businesses. Shop The Boro.
This year brought the kind of times that can cripple your favourite locally owned small businesses. But, we bounced back. We rallied together. We are your small shops and restaurants located in downtown Peterborough. We are the Boro, and we are open. Please continue to support us. Shop local. Shop the Boro.

We'd like to extend our big thank-you to our One City Peterborough team for all their hard work keeping downtown cleaner and tidier this hot summer! In partnership with Clint's Property Maintenance, the One City PTBO program has teams of people hired to be downtown during the day with cleaning carts, sweeping sidewalks, picking up litter, removing old posters, safely disposing of needles and other micro-cleaning tasks!
Our deepest condolences...
