Plagiocephaly Brachycephaly Scaphocephaly These are all types of skull deformations in infants typically caused by being in one position for too long. ... Since the early 90s, it has been recommended that babies sleep on their backs to decrease the incidence of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Although this has decreased SIDS incidence by 50%, it has increased the incidence of skull deformities. Typically, skull deformities are diagnosed by a therapist by evaluating for a flattened skull, facial asymmetry and torticollis. Some problems associated with flat head syndrome include: problems with speech and language development delayed intellectual and motor movement balance problems visual disabilities ADD and ADHD appearance problems (uneven skull, uneven eyes, uneven ears) How do you minimize flat head syndrome? early diagnosis is KEY, after 6-12 months because the cranial sutures fuse it becomes harder to correct Limit time that your baby is in a car seat, stroller, rocker or other baby devices that prop up your baby Hold your baby in your arms/baby carrier as this helps them strengthen their neck tummy time is essential! Let your baby play in a play pen or on the floor as much as possible Chiropractic can also help gentle adjustments to the neck and mobilizations to the cranial sutures can make a big difference in restoring function and balance. #paediatrics #chiropractic #monctonmoms #monctondads @reconnecthealthcentre

Baby shoes are just so. darn. cute. But should your baby be wearing shoes? According to the Canadian Paediatric Society, if your baby is not walking yet, they do not need to wear shoes. However, if they are walking then shoes can prevent injury or exposure to the elements when outside. When your baby is inside or the weather is warmer (and there are no hazards), barefoot is best! Let them explore their environment with those cute little feet ... Did you know... The foot has 26 bones and 35 joints held together by ligaments and supported by 29 muscles (10 in the foot/ankle and 19 instrinsic muscles). As your child starts to walk, this will strengthen their feet especially if they walk barefoot. Barefoot helps develop stronger and more coordinated foot muscles #barefoot #paediatrics #chiropractic #monctonmoms #monctondads

See post below hip CARs

Dr. Adele Boudreau 04.10.2020

Hip mobility is important to maintain especially if you have lower back, pelvic or hip pain. These are my 3 favourite exercises for hip mobility 1 hip CARs (controlled articulated rotations). In a standing pose, holding onto something for stability, slowly bring your hip into flexion then external rotation (outwards motion), internal rotation (tip your foot backwards) then into extension (kicking your hip backwards). Try to ONLY use your hip to accomplish this motion. Avoi...d using your back or other parts of your body! Repeat 10 per side. 2 hip 90-90s.... one hip is at 90 degrees forward (external rotation) and the other hip is back in 90 degrees (internal rotation). You can try and transfer to other side slowly (I had a little help from my little helpers ) hold for 2 mins per side. 3 pigeon pose one hip forward under your body and the back leg straight. Hold for 60 seconds per side. #mobility #kinstretch #hipcars #hip9090 #chiropractic #monctonmoms #triathlontraining #momrunners @reconnecthealthcentre

Have you heard of baby wearing? Baby wearing is basically using a carrier to hold your baby. This has many benefits including being easier on your body to hold your baby and also frees your hands to move around ( if youve had a baby who doesnt want to be put down). Research has shown that it reduces crying and studies have shown that wearing a premature baby close, particularly skin-to-skin, can help regulate a babys heartbeat, temperature and breathing patterns ... There is also growing research that it strengthens patent-baby bonding; great for dads who want to increase their bond with baby I absolutely love my @sollybaby carrier and so does Rosa! Now that shes 13 months old, if were out and shes tired, the carrier is great to be able to hold her without tiring my arms (shes getting heavy)! We also use it if shes teething and wants extra snugs... hey Im not complaining #chiropractic #monctonmoms #monctondads #sollybabycarrier
