This is definitely a public health measure I support. Should vitamin D supplements be given to all Canadians especially in long term care? Yes siree! I've been recommending all my patients stay on top of their vitamin D levels. 1,000IU is generally not enough to reach optimal vitamin D levels. Not sure how much to take? A blood test will give you the answer.... "This study shows how severe a problem this is," Teitelbaum told Medscape Medical News. "A 3.7-fold increase in death rate if someone's vitamin D level was below 20 [ng/mL] is staggering. It is arguably one of the most important risk factors to consider." https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/942497 #naturalhealth #naturalmedicine #holistichealth #holisticmedicine #primarycare #waterdown #watedownnd #waterdownmom #flamborough #hamont #hamilton #hamiltonnd #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicdoctor #yourfamilynf #familyfocused #burlont #burlington #burlingtonnd #womenshealth #optimalhealth #firstdonoharm #healthandwellness #naturalhealth #naturalmedicine #alternativemedicine

I have never understood the obsession with 'getting enough protein'. Balance and variety are key no matter the micro or macronutrient. For my plant based eaters I recommend an omega 3 supplement, preferable y fish based if possible, to account for the different fats in plants that meat and fish eaters don't have to pay much attention to. ... #nutritionmatters #yourfamilynd #familyfocused #waterdown #waterdownnd #waterdownmom #momlife #greenparenting #hamont #hamiltonnd #hamiltonmom #burlington #burlingtonmom #burlingtonnd #pediatricfocused #pediatricnd #holistichealth #holisticmedicine #naturopathic#naturopathicdoctor #healthandwellness #Repost @kids.eat.in.color Turns out, your kid doesn't have to eat meat to get the nutrients they need to be healthy. Here's a common situation: a baby was doing "great" with eating and eating plenty of meat, fish, or poultry. Then they turn one and stop eating meat (my personal definition of "meat" includes red meat, poultry, fish, and shellfish). Then the parent freaks out. Oh no! How are they getting protein?! We must get them to eat protein. So they start serving nuggets, pressuring the toddler to eat meat, and serving nuggets all the time. The problem is, there was no problem to start. Kids don't have to eat meat to get enough protein. Vegetarian kids can be very healthy, when they eat a variety of non-meat sources of protein. The protein foods on the right are: - eggs - dairy (cheese shown) - quinoa - beans (garbanzo beans shown) - nuts and seeds/ nut/seed butter (variety of nuts and seeds shown) For extreme picky eaters who don't eat meat or any of the foods on the right, they can be at risk for protein deficiency. It is difficult for vegetarian kids to get enough omega-3's from seeds and nuts, so a supplement may be needed in some cases. If you need help getting your child to eat a wider variety of foods, I have a free child feeding guide in my bio! Are you more of a meat person or vegetarian person? #kidseatincolor

Clinic social night @hanescornmaze with @wvchirogroup It was cold, dark and rainy but luckily we had a human GPS that had us in and out of the maze way faster than I thought was possible ... I agree 100%. #Repost @themidwitch Birth is not a medical event... Just as sport is not a medical event Just as driving a car is not a medical event ...swimming at the beach ...cutting up vegetables with a knife ...crossing the street . Each has potential to become one. (Like a very small chance of becoming one) . Each has associated risks. Where there could be the need for medical care or attention. But is one more dangerous than the other? When each has the risk of resulting in injury or death? . We don’t think of these things as medical events, ‘just in case’. . We don’t participate in these things with the worst case scenario, or emergency, at the forefront of our minds . We don’t act as if driving a car is dangerous or risky, even though it is. . It’s not common to talk about cutting up vegetables as risky or dangerous, even though it could be. . Because, we trust ourselves in those situations. We know we’re, for the most part, safe in those situations. Yet we’re not naive. We know we can access medical attention, if needed. . Although, if someone planted the seed in our mind (over and over again, for generations) that we were not capable ourselves of doing these activities, without an ‘expert’ present - maybe that’d be a different story? . Maybe with enough propaganda, fear agenda and marketing - we’d believe it? You know what? Pretty sure we would. (Just going by history and the successful psychological manipulation of humans, by those profiting from our fears.) . Should we call all of these things ‘medical events’? Do we need to...? Should we, when it may do more harm than good...? Should we...when it encourages us to lean away from autonomy, growth, self responsibility, self trust - and into fear...? Sounds like a bad plan See more
