It's time for a pop quiz! True or false: Dry mouth is a disease that causes the mouth to stop producing saliva. Answer: false!... Dry mouth is not a disease in itself, rather it is most commonly experienced as a side effect from certain medications or a symptom of a larger medical disorder. If left unchecked, dry mouth can lead to cavities when the saliva is unable to do it's job of breaking down and washing away food particles after eating. Speak to your medical professional about your dry mouth symptoms, and they may be able to recommend a solution. #LndOnt #FamilyDentist #DryMouth #SmileGoals #Dentistry #Flossing #Healthcare #OralHygiene #DentalCare

Does your child suck on their fingers or a pacifier? If so, why do they do it in the first place? For young children, sucking on fingers or objects like pacifiers is a natural reflex that can help them feel secure or relaxed. Children usually stop sucking between the ages of two and four, or around the time the permanent front teeth are ready to erupt. However, continued thumb or pacifier sucking after the permanent teeth come in can result in problems with the proper growt...h of the mouth and alignment of teeth. If your child needs help to stop thumb-sucking, try finding alternative ways of providing comfort and soothing for your child and praise them for not sucking. Consider seeking help from us, your family dentist to provide additional encouragement for your child. #GlencoeON #LndOnt #LondonCanada #FamilyDentist #Smile #Thumbsucking #Dentistry

Ready for a pop quiz? Test out your dental knowledge! True or False: Breath mints and chewing gums are a good way to eliminate bad breath. Answer: False!... Mints and gum are a temporary solution that works great for hiding garlic or coffee breath, but when the issue is persistent, it may be caused by poor oral hygiene or gum disease. To get to the bottom of your bad breath, take care of your teeth and gums by brushing and flossing twice daily, and speak with us if the problem persists. #LndOnt #FamilyDentist #Smile #SmileGoals #Dentistry #Flossing #Healthcare #OralHygiene

Taking care of ourselves is very important when we are sick, and don't forget oral hygiene! Here are some ways that you can take care of your mouth while under the weather. Continuing to practice good oral hygiene, keeping a fresh mouth and brushing your teeth can often help you start to feel better when you are sick. Keeping hydrated is also important for preventing dry mouth, which can lead to oral health issues, but make sure you are drinking something healthy like water.... Lastly, if you use cough drops, lozenges or syrup, choose one without added sugar and your teeth will thank you! #COVID19 #StayHealthy #LdnOnt #519Ldn #519 #GlencoeOntario
