The term organic is used pretty loosely these days, so how do we know if that extra 10-60% (sometimes even 300%) cost is actually going to pay off in the long run? Organic = Any produce or meat farmed without the use of artificial chemicals, hormones, antibiotics or GMOs, and free of artificial sweeteners, preservatives, coloring, flavouring, and MSG. The Pros... Certain pesticides contain a chemical called organophosphate, which can wreak havoc on your body in different ways including interfering with the way our hormones are processed in the body and altering thyroid function. I am sure everyone would like to avoid these! The same is true for hormones and antibiotics added to meats. In order to naturally fight off pests, organic fruits and veggies may contain more antioxidants and nutrients. The actual act of organic farming is better for the environment, reducing pollutants circulating in the air and neighbouring properties. The Cons The Ontario regulations for classifying an item as organic seem to be improving, however 100% of the item does not need to be organic in order to receive the golden seal! You can easily rack up a hefty grocery bill. Organic farming is labour intensive and yields fewer crop, therefore the extra cost is justifiable on their end. It is hard to accurately conduct studies on the total nutritional benefit, as every plot of land has different soil quality, climate, neighbouring farms etc. Do what you feel is best for your health! If that means picking and choosing what items you buy organic, The Clean Fifteen and The Dirty Dozen may be the way to go. These lists outline the 12 foods you SHOULD be buying organic, and the 15 that are usually clean regardless of the way they are farmed. Can you guess which foods belong on which list?

When in doubt, google it... Is what I say regarding most of life’s problems, but not when it comes to your health. Dr.Google doesn’t know your unique health history, Dr.Google can’t interpret your lab results, and Dr.Google won’t take physical exams.... Trying to diagnose yourself via the internet is never the answer, and will often leave you thinking the worst. We have all done it, but please don’t fall into that trap! Reach out to health professionals who can listen to your full story, gather the necessary information, and create the right treatment plan for you; something Dr.Google can’t do. #internetawareness #therightfit #drgoogle #leslievillewellness #kingtownship #beheard #bewell #naturopath

I have to admit, the novelty of self-isolation has really worn off by week 5. I want to see my family, I want to see my patients, and I want to go back to normal life. . As tempting as it is, keep doing your part. The curve has remained rather flat for the past 2 weeks, with hospitals being able to house all necessary in-patients with Covid-19. . This is thanks to you! For staying in, fighting the urge to celebrate Easter & Passover with family, and keeping your distance. ... . Looking forward to the day when we can all be together again . #socialdistance #flattenthecurve #covid19 #natmedfriends #stayintoronto #coronavairus #isolation #grocerydelivery See more

Whether you are ordering grocery delivery or going into the stores themselves, I am sure you have noticed it feels like foreign territory. Shelves you have never seen empty before are bare or your grocery order arrives with multiple missing items. . In the coming few weeks you can expect to see a huge shortage in fresh produce. This is because we get a majority of our vegetables from the USA and Canadian produce isn’t quite ready to harvest. . Here are 5 tips to make sure you...r family can continue to eat healthy food throughout social isolation: Purchase tons of veggies that have a very long shelf life. Spinach may go bad in less than a week, but hearty root veg like beets, turnip, parsnip, sweet potato, and carrots can last in your fridge for much much longer! Other examples of long lasting veg include eggplant, squash, zucchini, onions, and cabbage. If food looks like it’s on its last leg, cook it into a meal ASAP. Already have something ready for tonight? No problem, just pop it into the freezer and you’ll thank yourself later! Don’t have time to cook a full meal right now or know you wont get to that fruit or veg before it goes bad? Chop it into small pieces, freeze on a baking sheet, and bag it up. Next time you’re in the mood to make a smoothie, stir fry, or soup, you’ll have some pre-chopped produce ready to go. Keep fruit that would normally sit on your counter in the fridge. Slowly pull out a few at a time to let them finish ripening. This will help them last longer. This tactic can be used for fruits like Avocado, mango, kiwi, peaches, melon, and tomatoes. When all else fails and you are left with no produce, something is better than nothing. Try to incorporate frozen (1st choice) or jarred vegetables like corn, peas, roasted peppers, and artichoke. If possible, pick the ones with no salt added or in water labels. Double check the ingredients before adding them to your meal to make sure you aren’t doubling up on salt! Hope these tips help you and your family thrive through the next few weeks! #socialisolation #stayhome #freshproduce #survivaltactics #healthyeats #bewell

Yesterday was infant and pregnancy loss remembrance day. My heart goes out to those 1 in 4 who have experienced losing a baby. . I find myself in a position right now where many people ask so when are you going to have kids?? This question makes me so uncomfortable. Not because I have experienced a loss, but because I don’t want people knowing when I do decide it’s time. Infertility and miscarriage are just too common. .... So please, next time you decide to ask that question, remember this...that person you are talking to MAY have just experienced a loss. . #pregnancylossawareness #leslieville #nobleton #naturopath #infertility #miscarriage #SIDS #acupuncture #hormones #wellbefamilywellness #nobletonphysiotherapy See more
