Lest we forget

Dr. Matthew McCabe 05.12.2020

. Driving home the other day after a long day of work, I saw something that made me absolutely ecstatic and reminded me why I love doing what I do everyday - seeing a middle-aged man out for a jog . Sounds weird and creepy right?? Well read on... ... Rewind to the beginning of the year when I had this middle aged man come in with significant back pain radiating into the backs of his legs, couldn’t stand up straight without pain, and had a lot of tension . He claimed he had chronic low back pain for years, and it had got increasingly worse over time. He had sought out out other treatment without much success. . All he initially wanted before his assessment was to improve back pain to normal levels. As the assessment went on, he told me he used to love running but hasn’t in years due to the back pain and decided to give it up due to the pain. After his assessment we set up his personalized care plan and laid out some goals. I added one in there for him - get back to running (which he laughed at ). . After about a month span of adjusting, soft tissue work, a lot of stabilizing, strengthening, and progressive loading, he started back to one of his favourite workouts and stress relievers - running. . Fast forward back to this past Manic Monday- and there he was, out running around Chatham and doing something he thought he had to give up! . Don’t let pain or fear be the reason you stop doing the things you love... Let’s make a plan and help you achieve those things together! . ... I’ve got your back

*** I AM OPEN FOR IN PERSON APPOINTMENTS!!! *** I have excellent news!! No, with my new mask I have not changed my name to Dr. Exotic (Tiger King reference), but late Tuesday night, the Ministry of Health announced that all non-essential and non-emergency services carried out by Health Care Providers can be gradually restarted. ... In other words, as a chiropractor I can begin seeing all patients again (while following proper PPE, distancing, cleaning, etc. protocols)!! I will be reaching out to patients who requested a call about re-opening, but please do not hesitate to contact me or the clinic to get booked in ASAP as I will be spacing appointments out and working strict hours. Looking forward to getting back in the clinic and seeing you all!

Hope everyone enjoyed a great Victoria Day and long weekend! Unfortunately after Premier Ford's announcement last week, chiropractors were not included in Phase 1 of re-opening. What that means is I continue to operate as I have been for the past couple months; I can treat all patients (current or new) virtually.... Acute injuries or urgent care patients can continue to reach out to me (email, message, call) and we can determine the appropriate measures to get you back to feeling better! [email protected] 519-358-7342 (clinic) Message on here or call my cell Thank you, and I can't wait to get back into the clinic and seeing you all soon! Matt

-------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT -------------------------------------------- Firstly, I hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy as we continue through these unprecedented times. ... I know from speaking to a lot of patients on the phone over the past number of weeks, it's been difficult and at times frustrating navigating some of these new "normal's". Please know that I am here for you and to help you in whatever manner possible. I would like to share with the public that I am providing Telehealth appointments for EXISTING PATIENTS and NEW PATIENTS. I have had some great feedback and very satisfied patients with their care up to this point. What can I provide with virtual care? Services can include appropriate exercises, movement mechanics and modification, advice on ergonomics, hot/cold therapies, etc. I can EMPOWER you with education, advice, and help improve YOUR quality of day-to-day life while limiting exposure to COVID-19. **All major insurance providers are on board and are covering appointments for telehealth. If you are still unsure, please check with your respective insurance provider for verification** Please email me, call me, message me or call the clinic if you want to know more about telehealth or if you have any questions for me. Thanks, Matthew McCabe, DC

Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! As many of you have switched from your work location to working from home, you've likely found yourself with a make-shift work station. Here are a number of things to keep in mind to set your new office up optimally!... 1) The top of your computer screen should be approximately eye level 2) Keep your arms towards your sides and your forearms resting parallel to the floor 3) Try to keep the top of head, shoulders, and hips in one straight line 4) Sit right up against the back of your seat 5) If you have a lumbar support - great. If not, try rolling up a t-shirt or towel and placing behind your low back 6) Adjust your seat height so that your thighs are parallel to the floor. 7) Bonus - have another spot where you can stand up and work from (think sit-stand desk) 8) Get up and move every so often. Being immobile and sedentary is unhealthy! So get up, move, and stretch!! Your body will thank you for it!
