One of my most favourite topics to talk about is gut health. And that means we need to talk about poop ! Kid Carson @kidcarsonshow , Jordan McCloskey @jordan__mccloskey and myself spent the morning have a few laughs around gut health . Visit @kidcarsonshow to find the interview on his podcast. ... Yes, one of my favourite quotes is Feed Your microbiome before you feed yourself - maybe it’s just us gut geeks who love this quote . (My hubby may have rolled his eyes when he heard me say that ) And which stool test do prefer to use? BiomeFX @biomefx because of their technology - they use Full Genome Sequencing instead of the typically use PCR technology. PCR is known for its unreliability and high false positive results. And the basics for gut support? Sporbased probiotics from @microbiomelabs , human strain probiotics and eating fibre rich food for the prebiotic content. Love your gut. It does a lot for you #guthealth #sporebasedprobiotics #prebiotics #secondbrain

It has been a week of Remembering, Reflection, and Relaxation. November 11th is a day we as Canadians remember and reflect the lives that were lost during war. It was originally called Armistice Day to commemorate armistice agreement that ended the First World War on Monday, November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m We held a moment of silence with our kiddos and talked about what it all means. Our history always teaches us - that war is something you want to always avoid because o...f the extreme loss that comes with it. However, you can still stand up for what is right even though it goes against what the majority THINKS to be OK. We ARE an incredibly free country here in Canada. I have lived in the UAE and Singapore and there are things done there that are vastly different than here - both good and bad. I have a very good friend in Hong Kong and she has shared her first hand experiences with me. Know that our experiences overseas has shown us there are polices we wish Canada would adapt but there are things are grateful Canada does not do. 2020 has certainly opened my eyes to government policy. And to what the Canadian Constitution stands for. I think many of you may have a new perspective of what being Canadian means. And when you are told you cannot do something - you are either OK with it, or you are not. Do you need to go to war over it? Absolutely not. Should you say or do something? Well, I think we should. I would like to remind you that I am human. I am a mother to 2 children. I want what is BEST for them. I also want what is best for your children. I am also a Naturopathic Doctor. Know that even though I may be an ND, I am free to have political views (I have been told I should not and remain neutral). I am not a politician but what I am is a concerned citizen, just like you. I will then have an opinion around polices I do not agree with. Guess what happens if you don’t say anything? Nothing changes. It is as simple as that. We had business to attend to on the Sunshine Coast so the kiddos, and their parents, were able to do a bit of relaxing and watch the ocean over the TV .

This . I have found over the years by asking questions, listening to other theories, to keeping an open mind, I have not only LEARNED a ton (this is what an open mind does ) but improved as a human being - I have broken away from many moulds in my life: from how I was raised as a child to raising my own children, birthing at home in Singapore (very rare), to old narratives that float around the world today. I have learned to take the information in, maybe wrestle with it ...for a bit, then formulate my OWN opinion. If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend finding your own voice . #bealeader #makeyourownopinon #bethechange

Vaccine Optimization. Yes, this is a something we can achieve and should be striving towards. Have you ever asked a question about vaccines and received push back? Have you ever been shamed for asking a question? Do you now turn to the Google and FB forums to have your questions answered? Over the years I have seen and almost heard it all when it comes to the conversations around vaccines. I have seen what can happen when you enter the Vaccine arena and start asking questi...ons. My mission is to change the vaccine conversation landscape. To have a respectful conversation (ironically it’s not hard to do!). My role as Naturopathic Doctor is to teach and within that to be unbiased with the information. That is my job. I take my Oath as an ND very seriously along with Informed Consent. To hear more about what I have to say - head over to The Missing Pillar of Health hosted by @emma_greenathome. I have a 2 part interview with her since we had lots to talk about! Do you have any questions? You can also learn more by checking out my Vaccine Webinars- 3 parts - discussing infant immunity, the infections we vaccinate against and and how I optimize a child’s health along with vaccination. Risk. What is risk? What is risk rate? How do we use risk when talking about infections to disease? Do we only use incidence rate? Or death rate? Or combining them to calculate risk of death rate? What are the common parameters you hear about to be able to formulate a well thought out explanation of your risk of contracting something to risk of developing disease? Do incidence rates matter as a sole parameter? What is your risk of developing cancer? When they say 1:3 - how ...was this ratio determined? What is your risk of dying after contracting an infection? What it the population risk? What does population mean? Do you read the headlines? Or do you read the literature? And if you do, do you understand it? I am not a statistician. I am not a researcher. So what do I do on my Monday evenings? Attending a research class to up my game in all of this. And we are reading though How to understand what research tells us about RISK. Qualifying factors matter in research. Not headlines. Not inflated opinions. And certainly not fear tactics. #doyourResearch #LearnTheLanguage #DoTheWork

You may not be aware but your Naturopathic Doctor in British Columbia has multiple tools in their tool box to help you, and medications are one of them. One of the most frequent prescriptions I write for patients is for LDN. Low Dose Naltrexone. Why? Well the range you can use it, the mechanisms and the safety. And it can be used with children. ... For infertility to target those with clinical endorphin deficiency. Chronic pain via inflammatory markers - one condition would be Fibromyalgia Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis - by way of Immune regulation such as reducing glial activation and regulating T cell function. Autoimmunity such as Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, Hashimotos, rheumatoid arthritis, and MS. Lyme Disease and coinfections. Pediatrics - PANDAS/PANS, ADHD, juvenile chronic fatigue syndrome, PDD-NOS. So as you can see it is a drug I will use in my office. Know that I try not to use any medication as my first line (because I don’t typically do acute care) but rather I am supporting those with chronic to idiopathic conditions. LDN a big high five . And awesome section on Lyme @drdariningels ! #LDN #autoimmunity #chronicinflammation #chronicfatigue #TNFa #IL6 #naturopathicphysicians #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicdoctor
