This is so cool! Stamford Grade 11 student Austin Dill wrote his own holiday song to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada and he got a little help from the Arkells. Amazing work, Austin!

This year has been anything but traditional, so our students and staff figured, why does the music they make have to be traditional? This innovative thinking is why we get to present, #DSBN's Virtual Holiday Ensemble! Over 100 secondary students recorded their own tracks at home to make one wonderful piece of music. Read what students had to say and check out the performance! : bit.ly/2KhcBQC : youtube.com/watch?v=NikwShcn89c

Our Director of Education, Warren Hoshizaki, sent this letter home to families earlier today: Dear DSBN Families: During 2020, we have all learned to expect the unexpected. As we approach the start of the winter break, we wanted to share some information with you.... At this time, students are scheduled to return to school on Monday, January 4, 2021. However, the Ministry of Education or Public Health may decide to extend the winter break beyond January 4 for students. If the break is extended, I would like to reassure you that the DSBN is prepared to move to a remote learning environment for your child. Elementary Students: Students in elementary would have access to asynchronous learning materials which would be made available through our website at dsbn.org. Your child’s homeroom teacher will also be connecting directly with you during the first week of January. Secondary Students: Students in secondary would continue to learn by accessing the online component of their courses. How Information Will Be Communicated: Should the break be extended, you will receive further communication directly from the DSBN. We will also share this information on our social media and with local media. If the break is not extended, the first day of school will remain Monday, January 4, 2021. Preparing for the Winter Break: Although we do not know what the Ministry of Education/Public Health will decide, as usual, your child should bring home any personal items from their desks/lockers. Thank you for your understanding, and I wish you and your family a safe and healthy new year. That’s why she’s busy assisting with procedures and doing lots of training, with hopes to one day be a veterinarian. We know this pup is grateful for your help, Megan!

Niagara Region Public Health (NRPH) has confirmed that one individual at Governor Simcoe Secondary School has tested positive for COVID-19. Following COVID-19 case management and infection control protocol, students and staff are being contacted and advised by NRPH as needed. The school is being thoroughly cleaned and NRPH will do a comprehensive on-site assessment. We will continue working closely with NRPH to ensure Governor Simcoe meets all the health and safety protocols required.
