York Region Farm Direct Organic Wholesale Buying Club! Save big money on real food, while supporting local, organic, producers! How it works:... We are building a group of people who care about what they feed themselves, their families, and who respect the people who work to provide them with real, local, organic food. Together, we have a lot of buying power, and a simplified distribution model. You will receive messages about opportunities as they arise, which you can choose to go in on, or pass on. It is that simple. We also empower you with lessons on how to prepare and store your bulk items. For example: Farm 1 has a huge harvest of local, organic, Ontario garlic. The bulbs are big and beautiful, full of flavor, nutrition, and are deep purple in colour. Each bulb retails for $4 each in the store, at the farmers market, in CSA boxes etc. We contact the farmer to ask what kind of wholesale price/discount they would offer if we were able to place a very large order, for this example lets say $5,000 worth of garlic. This is easy to achieve with our accumulative buying power. The farmer agrees to give it to us at half price, or $2 per bulb. This is about the average price difference between what a store would buy it wholesale for, and then double the price to sell it to you. After we agree on a deal with the farmer, a message is sent out to you and all the other members of our group. We will usually request a minimum purchase amount. For this example let's say it is $100. All it would take is 500 local people to go in on the order at the minimum amount, and we all win big! Cut out the middlemen, support local producers, and eat well while potentially slashing our yearly grocery bill in half or more. Our motivation is that by doing this, an increased awareness and connection with where our food is produced will be developed. Let us raise standards, and allow for more real food to be produced and available at an affordable price.
