We have made mask-wearing in our store mandatory for EVERYONE as of tomorrow. If you are not wearing a mask you will be denied entry. Sorry, but the situation has progressed that as a company that wishes to protect our staff and the majority of our customers we have to make this decision. That decision is now made. Masks are Mandatory.... I acknowledge that there are customers that have legitimate exemptions and I regret that our new policy is discriminatory towards them. Unfortunately, there is a segment of our society that are claiming exemptions for ideological reasons/beliefs and are clouding the issue. I have fought very hard to reduce the discrimination of a business and now find myself making a decision that is discriminatory against a small portion of our society. These people are rightly angry against me but perhaps they could direct some of that anger against the people that are hanging onto their coattails to make a point and do not have a legitimate reason to not wear a mask. No matter what decision I made on this matter I was going to get shit and I decided to listen to the science, the majority of people, and the staff. Our society will decide how much to punish us. I am judgmental. I believe everyone is. We make judges all the time - what is best to eat, what to wear, is that person good for me, etc. I also believe that we are mirrors for each other. Sometimes we are reflecting back to people some of our own distortions/biasisms and they back at us. The more mirrors we allow ourselves to be reflected in and to really look at, the more of a real image of ourselves we will see. Words from ourselves and others are part of those mirr...ors. Sometimes, we do not want to see or hear those reflections. Sometimes we reject them because we can't admit it. Truth is scary for many of us. There is something wrong and we need to hear the voices that are telling us revelations about what needs to be looked at and fixed. back in the early eighties, I was in a museum and there was a large room with a line around it. It was a LARGE room. That room left a major impact on me. There was a line along the wall about 1 metre off the floor. As you followed the line messages were written beside the line - much like Brenna did in her painting. The room had to be large to make the short and fairly insignificanttime that we have existed on this planet to show up. Humans have only existed for 200,000 year...s. Our time on Brenna's drawing is a small dot. Even though we have been here for such a short time we have had an incredible impact on the planet - the biosphere. Corporations, inept/corrupt/complicit/delaying politicians, the billionaires, etc have disproportionally wrecked havoc on our biosphere and caused pain and suffering on fellow human beings and many other species. Sometimes when I pick up litter I wonder if I am enabling people to continue to litter. Since other people clean up the mess they produce they don't see the cumulative consequences of their actions or its impact. This is the same for most messes. How many times has a parent cleaned up a child's room because they can't handle it any longer hoping that the child learns what needs to be done and how.
