But how When applied to the skin evenly DHA causes a natural browning effect at a cellular level called a maillard reaction. DHA reacts with naturally occurring amino acids in the skins protein keratin. Different amino acids react to DHA in different ways, producing a range of tones. The resulting pigments are called melanoidins, similar in coloration to melanin which brown or "tan" from exposure to UV rays. Once this darkening effect has occurred, the tan will not sweat off or wash away with soap or water. Much like a UV tan, your sunless tan will fade gradually due to the natural skin renewal process. Exfoliation, prolonged water submersion, or heavy sweating may cause the tan to lighten more rapidly as these can all contribute to a more rapid cellular turnover. DHA-based sunless tanning has been recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation, American Academy of Dermatology Association, Canadian Dermatology Association and the American Medical Association as a safer alternative to sun-bathing. COVID SAFETY MEASURES: To comply with Covid safety regulations your airbrush technician will be wearing a face mask. Clients are not required to wear a face mask. Should you choose to wear a facemask, it will need to be removed during your appointment for application and remain off for the duration of development. Hand-sanitizer is available at the door. The service booth, seating and floors will continue to be disinfected between clients. Retail products on display will be handled by staff unless purchased. One client will be permitted in at a time. Despite these safety measures, Earth Tone remains a calming, safe place. Come, relax, enjoy, be free, be you. If you touch something, I’m happy to wipe it down.
