Wishing you a Joyous Easter We hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend enjoying family traditions and sharing special moments. May your children have fun and find happiness as they partake in the day’s festivities. For members of our community who are of Christian faith, let us take a moment and reflect on the significance of this day, the resurrection of Christ. Numbing Grief and Substance Abuse With the death of a loved one, we are bombarded by a tangled ball of emotions. We sometimes feel we can’t cope with the pain and the loneliness of missing our loved one. How can we go on without them? We would love for all the negative feelings to go away and to not have to worry about dealing with them. Sometimes we make unhealthy choices to numb our pain; some of us over eat or eat even we’re not hungry, using food as a substance to pro...vide comfort. This can cause weight gain and potentially medical problems. This can further compound negative feelings of self. Another unhealthy choice, those who grieve sometimes make, is drinking alcohol. This may numb pain for a little while, but once sober, the grief and pain are still there waiting to impose on life again. Similarly, taking drugs, whether they are prescription or illicit drugs doesn’t address the core issues of the cause of grief. Satisfying cravings for drugs is only a temporary solution and grief will resurface. So how can we resist these unhealthy choices? First we need to remember that these forms of comfort are not healthy and do not help. They impair our ability to properly grieve and prolong our healing from grief. It is also important to talk to family members and friends when facing cravings and when we are unable to cope. These kind people can help us better manage life after the loss of a loved one. Seek support from people, not from substance abuse. Wise choices are especially important at times such as these. Kate Worden Bereavement Counsellor East Prince Funeral Home/CFHC Online

Remembrance Day Observance Today we remember them, who served our country in times of conflict. We pause and listen to the single bugle, as it plays the notes to Last Post. We stand in silence, in their memory. We are forever grateful for your sacrifice and we will never forget your legacy. Today we express our sympathy to all the families who have lost a loved one. We stand with you as you remember them.
