Eastern Health advises that it is receiving high volume of calls for the phone lines to book an AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD vaccine on Thursday, April 1, 2021. Eastern Health is offering one clinic only at this time for individuals 55 to 64 years of age to administer the AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD vaccine which is set to expire this week. Clerks will continue to respond to phone calls/messages until the remaining appointment slots are filled.

Update on Eastern Health AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD Vaccination Clinics Eastern Health is advising that all appointment slots have now been filled for the AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD vaccination clinics located in Carbonear, Holyrood and St. John’s between April 9, 2021 and April 19, 2021. Dialing the number without 1-800 directs calls to the wrong number. ... Home visits by community health nurses are available to the very frail or homebound who cannot travel to a flu clinic, or visit a pharmacist or doctor to get their flu shot. These individuals can also call their local Community Health Office from Monday Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to arrange their flu shot. ***PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT*** Temporary Interruption of Obstetrical/Gynecology Services at Carbonear General Hospital... October 12, 2020 St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public that due to an unforeseen unavailability of on-call physician coverage, obstetrical/gynecology services at the Carbonear General Hospital will be temporarily unavailable from Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. until Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. Patients in the area who require emergency obstetrical or gynecology services during this time period are advised to still proceed to the emergency department at the Carbonear General Hospital, where they will be assessed and transferred to another hospital, if necessary. Patients who are in closer proximity to another hospital, such as Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville or the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s, should proceed there for assessment. Eastern Health advises patients with questions or concerns to consult with their family doctor or nurse practitioner. Individuals with questions related to their pregnancy may also speak to a registered nurse by calling the Health Line at 811 or TTY 1-888-709-3555. Eastern Health thanks the public for their understanding while the health authority focuses on providing safe and quality obstetrical care.

Construction work will result in a permanent extension of the main entrance to provide additional indoor space to help facilitate COVID-19 screening upon arrival to the facility. ... Patients, clients and visitors will continue to be able to access the facility through the main entrance during construction, and normal safeguards will be in place. ***PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT*** Temporary Closure of Health Sciences Centre Main Entrance Eastern Health advises the public that the main entrance of the Health Sciences Centre will be closed to all patients, visitors and staff starting at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2020 for approximately five hours. This closure is necessary to facilitate new medical equipment being brought into the facility. Patients and staff are asked to use the emergency entrance to access the ...facility during this time. Signage and security personnel will be in place to redirect to the alternate entrance. Normal safeguards will be in place; however, patients, visitors and staff are advised to proceed with caution and follow posted signage in the area. ***PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT*** Change in Location for Burin COVID-19 Testing Clinic Eastern Health informs the public that the COVID-19 testing clinic, currently located at the Burin Pennisula Health Care Centre, will be reconfigured to a drive-through model onsite by Friday, October 9, 2020. This clinic will be located at the back of the hospital and has been redesigned to accommodate an anticipated increase in patients. Patients are reminded to watch for the traffic sign...age as the access road is one way. This clinic will be accepting patients by appointment only. Individuals who are symptomatic are asked to complete the online COVID Assessment Tool on the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador COVID-19 website and, if indicated, they should then call 811. ***PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT*** Boom Truck Lift at Entrance of Health Sciences Centre Eastern Health advises the public that there will be a boom truck on-site this evening (October 7, 2020) at 5:00 p.m. in the area between the main entrance and emergency entrance of the Health Sciences Centre. ... The truck will be lifting materials onto the roof in relation to on-going construction. The area will be cordoned off to prevent any unauthorized access of pedestrians and/or vehicles for the duration of the lift, which is expected to take approximately 1.5 hours. Access to both the main entrance and the emergency entrance will continue to be available at all times. A portion of the drop-off lane in front of the main entrance will be impeded. The public should use caution in the area and follow the direction given by security personnel.
