Three Causes of Dishwasher Leaks Dishwasher Door Leaking If the water is pooling directly under the door, a leak in the door itself is likely the cause of the issue. Your door latch may be bent or loose, or not closing properly. Try tightening the latch with a screwdriver to secure the closure. New latch systems may need installing. ... If water still runs from the door, the gasket (rubber door seal) might need replacing. If your gasket is damaged, this can be replaced with relative ease. Soak your new gasket in warm soapy water, which will make it flexible and easier to re-install. While you’re working on the door, go ahead and tighten the hinges if they’re loose. Dishwasher Tub Leaking If water is pooling under your dishwasher, the tub may have a hole. Detergents and minerals can corrode the bottom of your tub over time, causing water to seep through and collect under your dishwasher. It’s possible to fix some tubs, but depending on the age of your unit and severity of the problem, you may need to replace your dishwasher entirely. Loose or Damaged Valves With use, over time, connections and hoses inside your dishwasher can become loose. Check your drain hoses to ensure everything is securely connected (including the clamps holding the hose in place on either side) and verify your water inlet valve isn’t stuck - this would certainly cause flooding. If you have cracked hoses, they’re easy to replace with a trip to the hardware store. Electrafix is here to help you with all your dishwasher and appliance needs. Five Reasons Why Your Oven is Cooking Unevenly 1. Oven isn’t calibrated properly Over time, a lot of heating and cooling can put stress on an oven, and so the accuracy of temperature can wear out over time. ... 2. Faulty temperature sensor You can check your temperature sensor inside your oven by preheating and checking that the temperature sensor is rising with the heat. If this isn’t the case, the temperature sensor will need replacing. 3. Your oven racks need re-adjusting If you have a brand-new oven, you’ll need to learn how it cooks. Take note of the placement of your racks, and how your food is cooking. For example, if your food is burnt on top but undercooked on the bottom, your rack may need lowering. You may even need to rotate your food as it cooks to ensure it's heated evenly. 4. Broken elements There are two elements in your oven the bake element and the broil element. If either of these are broken or faulty, your oven isn’t going to cook evenly and they need to be replaced. 5. Oven fan not working If you’re the owner of a convection oven, the fan is the most important part of your appliance. This fan is vital in distributing the heat evenly around the oven, helping food to cook evenly. When the oven is on, check to see if your fan sounds louder than usual, or if it seems to be working slower than usual. If this is the case, wait until your oven is completely cool and turn the fan by hand. If there is any resistance, it's time to replace the fan! HE Laundry Detergent in Standard Washers Did you know that you can use HE detergent in a regular or standard top load washer with a center agitator but not the other way around? Non-HE detergents cannot be used safely or effectively in high-efficiency top or front-load washers. HE and regular detergents contain the exact same cleaning ingredients, surfactants, enzymes, and water conditioners of the same brand. The only difference is that HE detergent is formulated to be low-...sudsing for HE, energy-saving washers that use less water in the wash and rinse cycles. It is definitely safe to use HE detergent in a standard or regular washing machine. You will notice fewer suds, but your clothes will be just as clean.

How Long Can You Leave Refrigerator Doors Open? When you were young, did your parents ever say to you: "shut the fridge door; you'll let all the cold out."? It’s a common line kids hear growing up, but is it even true? Most of us know that leaving a refrigerator door open for long periods of time will warm up your food and cause your refrigerator to have to work harder in order to keep the food cool. But if you open and close it a bunch of times - for example, when you are ...loading groceries or making food - are you actually using more energy by opening and shutting the refrigerator door? According to experts, apparently not. In fact, opening and closing your refrigerator doors a multiple times is better than leaving them open the whole time. For the best energy conservation, a good rule of thumb is not to keep your doors open for longer than 30 seconds at a time.

Are you thinking about getting a brand new oven? Did you know that brand new ovens often emit a burned plastic smell when turned on for the first time? Remove any any zip or twist ties from your new oven. ... 2. Wipe down any racks and the inside of the oven with warm, soapy water. 3. Turn on the fan in the ventilation hood and, be sure to open a few windows nearby. 4. Set the oven to high heat, between 400 to 550 degrees Fahrenheit (204 to 288 degrees Celsius). 5. Run the oven at this temperature for 30 minutes to an hour max. 6. Still smell burning after the cycle? If you do, repeat the process once or twice more. 7. Once you no longer smell oil or a burning odor, allow the oven to fully cool 8. Finish off wiping down the interior of the oven, using a warm, soapy washcloth. Voila - Your oven is ready to go!

Three Easy Energy-Saving Ways to Reduce Your Monthly Utility Bills: 1. Turn Off Unused Appliances Did you know that an appliance can continue to consume energy even when it is not switched on? Household appliances such as TVs, routers and computers continue to use energy until you switch them off at the wall socket. In fact, switching off the wall socket can potentially cut the amount of energy consumed at home by up to 10 percent.... 2. Avoid Overfilling the Refrigerator Size does matter. As a general rule, bigger refrigerators consume more electricity, and refrigerators are one of the top five most energy-hungry appliances in our homes. Go for the size you need. If you have an old refrigerator, regularly check the seal at the door to ensure it is in good condition; otherwise, the cool air will escape. For efficient cooling, there should also be good circulation between food items, so avoid overloading the freezer. 3. Use the Correct Sized Pans Use a small pan on the small hob ring, and a large pan on a large hob ring to save energy. In fact, using a six-inch pan on an eight-inch ring wastes approximately 40 percent of the heat produced by the hob.
