How did you spend your Easter weekend? In anticipation of a LOT of eating, Craig and I did a partner workout Saturday morning. This 28 second time lapse video captures 40 minutes of blood, sweat and tears (just me). 200 burpees 100 push ups... 100 shoulder presses 200 lunges 200 sit ups 200 squats Thank goodness it was a partner WOD - we split the work in 1/2 And then we ate for the rest of the weekend. It’s all about balance . #elevatewomenshealth

I’m so grateful to @jenna_dingman72 for training with me these last 6 weeks for our first ever 5K run together. Jenna I loved every minute we have had together in our training. And I’m so proud of you for your awesome consistency. May we always be able to run, train and have fun together #youremygirl

If you've ever wondered why you feel so much better when you get adjusted, this is a great white board video. Research indicates that when you get adjusted, there is a direct effect on the prefrontal cortex (PFC), which acts like a conductor in your brain. It coordinates almost every thought, behaviour and movement. If you're looking for the scientific paper, you can find it at https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27047694/.

Many of us have experienced the devastating loss of a child through miscarriage. I have. The Mayo Clinic estimates that 10-20% of pregnancies result in a miscarriage. I think it's actually higher, it's just that many of us stay silent about it. Why? When someone asks how we're doing, it's awkward to say "horrible - I just had a miscarriage". It's hard enough to process our own grief over the loss let alone try to manage someone else's reaction. And yet, many of us who hav...e lost a child in pregnancy feel isolated, helpless and utterly alone. You are not. You are surrounded by women who have been there and understand the sense of loss. You are loved. And you will move through this. Please reach out if you need to

It isn’t pretty, but it’s the first time I’ve done a back bend in probably 35 years. My goal this year and next is to radically change my flexibility. As I approach my 50th birthday at the end of 2021, I want to be able to move much more like I did when I was a teenager. Age is a challenge to strength and flexibility, not a reason to lose them. ... It’s a challenge only because we stop working at it. So, we tighten up and lose strength. The idea that we get weaker as we age is bull pucky. We get weaker because we stop doing all the things that are required to maintain muscle mass and pliability. 50th birthday goal - doing the splits. I’ve got just over 14 months to get there. And believe me, it’s going to take that long!!

The kids are getting healthy, oven baked apple fritters as snacks this week. Easy, yummy and school friendly. Here’s the recipe: https://paleogrubs.com/healthy-oven-baked-apple-fritters... I would use less honey next time BTW.

If you ever wonder why I tell you to walk briskly 2x/day as part of your therapy, this is it right here. It’s great for your spine, your nerve system, for reducing pain, and for connecting brain cells. Not mentioned in Dr. McGill’s book, but noticed by pretty much everyone who’s ever taken a good walk, is that it’s great for your mental state too . ... Everyone has time. Make some today for a brisk walk . Your body will thank you . #elevatewomenshealth

So, I took the plunge and hired a trainer to help me strengthen my core. I’ve been working out 4x/week for years doing functional training but have been plagued by chronic low back pain since last December. Not cool in my job! The reality is that even though I thought I had a strong core, it isn’t quite strong enough for the lifestyle and career I have. So I’m on this journey with Coach Cheryl Pattyn from Positive Image Fitness in Ilderton to get strong and become pain free.... This is me doing my virtual workout with her at 7am yesterday morning. So far, my back pain has resolved about 95% in the first 2 weeks. Yes, it was a core weakness issue.

I just finished this 20 minute deep stretch for my hammies and glutes. It feels awesome! I've got really tight posterior chain muscles, so I've got to work hard on keeping them pliable. Give this stretch a try and let me know how you like it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1JKHQpcSmY

How many of you have stopped exercising or doing workouts you love because you’re in pain? #momneck #momback Let me guess. You used to work out before you had kids . Then, between being up all night with babies and doing #allthethings moms do, there was never time. ... One day, you thought it’s time to dust off those Nikes and go for a run . But running was way harder than you remember. And you pulled something, which caused pain. Or maybe you hit the gym and lifted a little to long and heavy. And your shoulders and neck have never really recovered . I get it. I hear these stories all the time from women just like you. The ability to move pain free is a hot commodity once you hit your 30’s and beyond. But it’s that ability to move and exercise the way YOU want to that is a vital part of being healthy. And goodness knows, we should all be laser focused on what creates health right now #pandemiclife. Getting adjusted and having spine specific home exercises make feeling great so much easier. Let me know if I can help. #elevatewomenshealth

Can I just acknowledge that this is a tough day for anyone with school aged kids? Me being one of them. It's hard to get excited about it. No matter what anyone says or what research people are quoting, the reality is we just don't know what's going to happen. No one does. So we move forward and pivot our decisions if needed. Here's one thing we do know with absolute certainty. This is a critical time to be focussed on health habits: eating well, moving lots and in diffe...rent ways, taking supplements that increase immunity, getting adjusted so your brain and body communicate as clearly as possible, getting good sleep and most of all, staying hopeful and positive. You have more control than you know. Focus on the things you CAN do. And if it's been awhile since you've had your nervous system checked, message me now. Let's get you back on track.

Parents often think their little ones won’t want to get adjusted because they’re scared of doctors. My experience is that kids LOVE getting checked and corrected. Getting the kids - even the really young ones - engaged in their care and showing them what to expect is important to them. It gives them a sense of control. #elevatewomenshealth centre is a pediatric focussed practice. Kids are never too young to begin the path toward extraordinary health . And chiropractic is a great start

Oh my gosh, you have to watch this little girl do daily affirmations. It’s the best!! As a part of Think By Design, a critical pillar of good health, the idea that what we tell ourselves has a direct and massive impact on our health must be acknowledged. I had a mentor once who told me If I talked to you the way you talk to yourself, you’d hate me.... Powerful words and true. Most people seem to have a natural bent toward negativity and self loathing. Talk to any teenage girl if you doubt me. Consciously catching those words we’re saying to ourselves and speaking hope and love instead is one of the best gifts you can give yourself and your kids. I don’t know who taught Jessica to do this, but kudos to them!

Have you looked at your kids’ posture recently? 4 and a half months of looking down at phones is wreaking havoc on their spines. It’s not just aesthetic...it’s an indication that structure is changing in their nervous system. If you’ve never had your kids checked for spinal alignment, now is the time. #youonlygetonespine !!
