Hello Families: Hope everyone is healthy & enjoying the summer! We are happy to announce we will be re-opening Nursery School in September provided there aren’t any more set-backs due to Covid-19. New health guidelines have been put in place to ensure the safety of the staff & children. If you are interested in signing up your child for the Fall please do so on our wait list @ [email protected]. We will be giving priority to our prior families since we are limited to the numb...er of children we can accommodate but that may change by September. If you know of anyone who may be interested in a part-time program please send them our way! Thanks so much! I hope to see all of you soon! Deborah Kok, RECE Supervisor EDCNS
Toys are all around us...hiding in plain sight! One of my favorite activities is helping parents create play-based learning opportunities using items already a...vailable in the home. Does anyone else obsess over up-cycling items instead of recycling them? Remember that toys are the tools for learning. And not all toys have to be purchased at the toy store! . . . #cariebertseminars #slpsofinstagram #instaslp #slp #earlyintervention #speechtherapy #toys #playbasedlearning
Early learning and child care is a powerful equalizer, narrowing achievement gaps that emerge before children even start school. Educational child care is neede...d more than ever to help families address the trauma of the pandemic, to support parent employment and to ensure children aren’t left behind. https://www.theglobeandmail.com//article-a-strong-child-c/ See more
It's a difficult time for everyone but especially little ones. There is no easy way to explain what's going on around us but the best bet for parents and caregivers is through frequent conversations, acknowledging their feelings and frustrations and assuring them that this won't be forever but we need to keep the world healthy and this is a difficult part of that process. We've compiled a few e-books on our website to help start the conversation. www.rlelc.weebly.com/covid
A child's behaviour may regress at times, with toileting accidents, walking more in the night, more or longer tantrums. Why does this happen, and how should we support them through this?
I never feel worse than when I’ve commented on a child’s work i love the dog you drew and they say it’s a house. Have you ever done this? The language... around creative projects is important I’ve come to find over the years when working with young children. We want them to know we are proud of them for making something, but over time, this can lead to the seeking of praise for something rather than doing or creating or building something for the process. That’s the key. Talk to them about the process they used. The effort they put in. The trying and trying again. The things they discovered while doing the thing. See more

"Ontario has extended its state of emergency for another 28 days. The bill to extend the measure passed during a special session at the provincial legislature today. Premier Doug Ford says it is too soon to relax measures as the province continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. The order closes non-essential businesses and child-care centres until May 12."
Check out this guide for helping children cope with stress during the COVID-19 outbreak from the World Health Organization.
You are going to come across a lot of app based websites and teacherprenuers that are going to try and capitalize off of the sudden catapult of children into ho...me based settings knowing you need to keep your children busy while you may be working from home. They will tell you to buy their packets of premade worksheets and activity ideas. They will tell you thousands of other children have learned to read with their app. Don’t fall for it. Young children don’t need worksheets or apps to learn. All you need to do is let them play. With activities they choose. Indoors or out. That’s it. That’s the secret to teaching a preschooler. And if you don’t believe it, send me a dm and I’ll fill your inbox with articles and research galore to prove it. See more
