Wade Neal, a Peel Regional Police Officer who suffers from #PKD, received a kidney donation from his colleague and friend of 30 years through the paired kidney donation program yesterday. Wade hopes that his story will resonate with those who are not familiar with organ donation and inspire interest in becoming a donor. Agustin De La O Martinez waited two years before receiving a kidney transplant from a complete stranger, Kat Velkoff. Most of these donors are relatives or friends, had some kind of close, personal relationship. Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. A day for us to reflect on those lost to autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD). ARPKD is a rare genetic disorder occurring in approximately 1/25,000 kids globally, and can cause death in the first month of life. Today and every day, we fight to #endPKD, so no family has to endure the loss of their child from ARPKD.
