Wade Neal, a Peel Regional Police Officer who suffers from #PKD, received a kidney donation from his colleague and friend of 30 years through the paired kidney donation program yesterday. Wade hopes that his story will resonate with those who are not familiar with organ donation and inspire interest in becoming a donor. Agustin De La O Martinez waited two years before receiving a kidney transplant from a complete stranger, Kat Velkoff. Most of these donors are relatives or friends, had some kind of close, personal relationship. And just imagine somebody like Catherine coming forward and just walking into our office and saying I want to help someone I don’t even know. Take my kidney and give it to somebody I can really help. That’s above and beyond. Read more about this inspiring story of a stranger’s generosity and the moments when Agustin and Kat meet for the first time, here: https://wjla.com//thank-you-you-gave-me-a-second-chance-ki

There are things we do every single day with intention, yet we don’t even think about them. We wake up, take a shower, brush our teeth, get dressed, drive to work or school all part of our invisible routine. What if we added a moment of kindness to our invisible routine? What if we woke up and as we turn the alarm off, we immediately send an uplifting text message to a friend? Or during the morning commute, what if we let that guy merge into traffic with a wave and a smile instead of feeling upset or slighted? Read this article from The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation to learn more ways about how you can make kindness the norm! https://www.randomactsofkindness.org//2961-make-kindness-t

Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. A day for us to reflect on those lost to autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD). ARPKD is a rare genetic disorder occurring in approximately 1/25,000 kids globally, and can cause death in the first month of life. Today and every day, we fight to #endPKD, so no family has to endure the loss of their child from ARPKD.
