I don't know EVERY detail for EVERY single tropical or European destination out there because... well, I'm only one person and truthfully, weddings can be held anywhere in the world whether perched on a remote rock or in a swanky hotel. It's a lifelong educational journey to know every place to recommend to clients. . But when I do learn about new places, there are a few things I have to figure out first:... CULTURE - to minimize culture shock for my clients POLICIES - because every country is different in how they do things PRICE POINT - obviously UNIQUE LOCATIONS - so to not continuously recommend places that look exactly the same as other places PARTNERS - who is the best of the best in those locations to recommend . Even when I was learning about the Bahamas last week, I had to look up what it meant to be an "off island" property. . ' . . When planning a destination wedding, culture is undoubtedly the biggest and most obvious difference. . But what might not be obvious, is the culture.... . In other words, their hours of operation, working style, and turnaround time. . So if you are generally someone who likes immediate responses, we would suggest planning a wedding in the USA, response time is usually quite immediate. . If you're someone who likes to take it easy and are not bothered by a little bit of a wait, getting married at a resort is not a bad idea. You'd get used to their island time pretty quickly. . If you appreciate European culture, then get married in Italy where you have the views, food, and history, but be prepared for some siestas in the middle of the day when you typically would expect responses. . . . A few years back when I was in Mexico for a wedding, the videographer had asked me 15 minutes before the ceremony to press "record" on a stationery camera in the back. . I didn't think this was going to be hard. But when I stepped into the grass right next to the camera, suddenly, it felt like my foot was going to explode. I had stepped into a nest of fire ants that proceeded to swarm my foot.... . Then the music started for the ceremony. . I quickly pressed the button and hobbled back to the processional. With the 40 degree sun, things were not getting better for my foot, but the show had to go on. . Lessons learned: - Bug spray and aloe vera gel don't really help fire ant bites - Travel insurance is always a must - Don't wear sandals to a wedding you're working, even if it is blistering hot . Needless to say, we opted out of the optional disco party after the reception. . . It’s been a while since I introduced myself here, so here we go! My name is Kimberly and I’m the curator of this Instagram account and owner of Envision Weddings | Toronto Wedding Planning, Design & Floral, Envision Floral Studio and Envision Destinations. I started a separate destination brand for my existing, longtime wedding planning and design firm in Toronto so I can specifically speak to those couples who want a little more adventure. A little more pizazz. A lot more FU...N outside of what they already know. When people think destination weddings, they think of the beach, sun and sand. And while we LOVE the beach, we want to challenge our couples to look even further. I was absolutely stunned by the @chihulygg exhibit by @chihulystudio in Seattle and particularly impressed by the Chandelier Walkway, nestled next to the Glasshouse. - The Walkway is adjacent to the Art Plaza which can house 80 guests for a standing cocktail reception before guests are ushered into the Glasshouse for dinner and merriment. All guests are also able to enjoy the Garden Plaza which is also filled with Chihuly originals. - Seattle is also one of the most beautif...ul places within the United States with world class seafood fare and famous for their coffee and coastal scenery. I was absolutely stunned by the @chihulygg exhibit by @chihulystudio in Seattle, and of course, their Glasshouse (pictured here) hosts private events - because why the heck not? - The Glasshouse at the exhibit is perfect for receptions under a truly unique setting: a 1340 piece, 100 ft long sculpture overhead in bright reds and oranges. With a capacity of 300 seated guests, and the ability to have a cocktail reception in the surrounding Garden Plaza (also filled with Chihuly ...pieces), this is a sight that will truly take your guests' breath away.
