We hope you had a wonderful long weekend and were able to share some Valentine's Day love. Our residents were delighted with the lovely virtual storytelling session provided by Doreen Vanderstoop, from Storytelling Alberta. All her stories focused on the many faces of love and accompanied them with beautiful songs. Our favourite part was her rendition of Country roads with a unique Alberta twist. Our team was very touched to be able to celebrate our wonderful resident, Norm’s 100th birthday with him! Even though we’re in a pandemic we wanted Norm to feel all the love on his very special day. We reached out to the Evanston community and Calgary requesting Norm receive 100 cards from 100 different people, and what we received was heartwarming. Not only did we reach our goal of 100 cards, we surpassed it! The total amount of cards we received was 581, cards were received... from as far away as Washington D.C.! Thank you to every one who took the time to fill out well wishes for this very special birthday, it means the world to Norm and his family. We were also incredibly lucky to have local businesses contribute gift packages, signed memorabilia as Norm is a huge sports fan and some pizza to celebrate with his tablemates! Norm’s favourite team is Las Vegas Golden Knights and he received a personalized video from his favourite goalie, Marc Andre Fleury! A talented violinist from the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra sent a wonderful birthday video and a local music studio put together a mini concert in Norm’s honour. Some of our Covenant executive team also sent along some heartfelt video messages. A personalized story about Norm’s life was put together by a sensational storyteller. One of our great Evanston community members created a video compilation for Norm and his family to enjoy for years to come. Thank you to Norm’s family for letting us be a part of this huge milestone! Norm, thank you for your kindness, laughter and wisdom. Here’s too many more years of celebrations!!

As we're coming up on a year of this pandemic we wanted to reflect on how lucky we are to have the support of our amazing residents and their families. We were so touched to receive so many heartfelt cards and video messages from our residents over Christmas to express their gratitude. Evanston Summit is looking very festive after our Christmas craft making centrepieces for our dining room. Summit was filled with the smells of Christmas and lots of laughs were shared. "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life" -Pablo Picasso

This year's Remembrance Day was very different from years past but it was still so important for us to to honour the courage, valour and sacrifice of the heroes who have served and continue to serve during times of war and conflict. We will remember them.

What a lovely treat we received from a wonderful member in our community of Evanston. Cupcakes Stories donated this beautiful three layer of southern red velvet cake to Evanston Summit to celebrate all our hardworking staff. It really made each and everyone of our staff's day. We were also lucky to receive this beautiful arrangement from one of our volunteers, what a lovely surprise. We're so grateful to Julie Smeed for brightening our residents day with flowers weekly. It really means the world to each and every one of them. Thanks so much to the wonderful line dancing group from Heritage Village for coming to perform at Evanston Summit yesterday morning. It was lovely to spend an hour listening to all the great songs and watching the talented dancers. :)
