This dresser would like to have a word with you. It heard from a friend that you've been taking your clean laundry and just dumping it in a pile, and it would like you to know that it totally understands. Folding is hard. If the textile area upstairs on a daily basis is any indication, there are many people out there in the world who have absolutely no idea how to fold things at all (tragic, I know). But it is here for you. It has a nice broad surface on which to lay out your... freshly laundered clothes, a mirror in which you can watch your form (you get points for form when you get into professional adulting so it's best to practice now), and when you've finally taken that strange asymmetrical hooded wrap shirt and folded it into a perfect right angled shape it even has drawers for you to put said clothes in. It's taking me forever to write this because I am literally composing this entire post on lead type, and then I am going to bash my cell phone against it thus creating the most old school social media post ever done on a very modern device. I bet you didn't know phones still worked like that, did you? You can totally take my word that this is a completely feasible way to compose a post because it would take you far too much time to test it for yourselves even if you DID have ...the necessary equipment to do so. Besides, would I lie to you about something like that? ... don't answer that. Letterpress bits and bobs are absolutely delightful to look at. Like I should probably keep that reglet cabinet with its perfectly sorted little stacks of perfectly patina'd reglets just so I can take pictures of things in front of it and have them automagically look a billion times prettier than they would have in front of literally any other backdrop. In fact when I type 'reglet cabinet' my phone autocorrects it to 'regret cabinet' which is what I will have (or rather, not have) when I sell that. I mean, my phone autocorrects it after I bash it into the post I composed entirely with lead type, because that's totally what I'm doing which is why this is taking me so long. ... yes. That moment when a clock is so pretty and shiny that you try and shoot a photo of it and you accidentally do a clock selfie. That's a thing right? Well if it wasn't before then it is now. I know, it's distracting but at least you can still figure out that it's a Junghans, and after reading this you will know that it strikes every quarter hour, it's a Westminster chime and it has a little lever in the back in case you're trying to focus on something and you need less chimey an...d more quiet timey. It's done in the style of a carriage clock but is not, in fact, a carriage clock. This is good in two ways: it's super pretty with a fancy handle on the top, it's small enough to fit in almost any space, and it's big enough that you can easily read the time! If you need a bit of time then you're in luck because I don't just have a bit of time, I have THREE TIMES the time which is time cubed therefore technically space-time which apparently lives in a bunch of marbles. This is possibly the best explanation of space time you have ever heard and given that we don't know exactly what dark matter is then we can't rule out that it's marbles, which makes this a plausible theory and this post a breaking piece of important scientific news.... .... also clocks. Glass door cupboards are like a blank slate. So many things you can put in there. Dishes... books... knick knacks... shrunken heads... a collection of the tears of people who haven't won a Tony award despite being nominated numerous times. You know, just the regular bric-a-brac of day to day life. This one is my favorite kind... obviously once a part of a greater whole, it was altered to fit in a smaller space and a drawer was added to the bottom. Now as a consequence there i...s no bottom beneath the drawer, but fortunately it fares better with no bottom than it would with no drawers. Might be a baking time of year! I know we all did more baking than seemed humanly possible this summer, but that doesn't mean we can just abandon our pie obligations this fall. This table is literally so great that it cracked the floor beneath it. And by literally I mean it's literally great, because it didn't literally crack the floor, it was like that when we got here. Honest. I mean we've had some tables in the past that were floor crackers for sure, but this isn't one of them. What it is is good old fashioned farmhouse charming with a side of bright sunny yellow that brings summer shining into whatever room it resides in, no matter what the seas...on. It has a couple shelves for stashing what you will, be that crocks for dry goods or baskets for craft supplies or whatever you can dream of to put on those shelves! If you're looking for time that has some substance, then stop right here because it doesn't get much more substantial than this beauty here. Sure it's got a chip out of the top corner and the glass cover doesn't love staying closed (raised in a barn, probably), but seeing as you don't see a cast iron clock walk through the door every day we decided to let it slide. Seriously though, best to slide this because she heavy. Probably why it has those killer ram heads on either sid...e... you need something strong to carry this and rams are pretty strong! I feel the need to point out that the ram heads are killer, as in colloquially cool, not the heads of killer rams, which would be objectively not cool at all. Except maybe in a Tarantino kind of way, but we're not about that. So to sum up: very heavy, keeps good time, has a good time keeping good time, a beautiful porcelain face and a couple of flaws that only make it more beautiful if you ask me. And it comes with a key! You can't imagine how tired you get of writing "The quick fox jumps over the lazy brown dog" when typewriters are such a staple item in the shop and every one needs to be tested before it goes out for sale. I mean sure, I can just tap every key in sequence but you kind of lose the magic flow of tapping letters out on cool metal keys. So I was quite delighted when Someone On The Internet taught me that "Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow" uses all the letters in fewer words,... and of course objectively sounds way cooler. Thanks Internet Person! This little typewriter is a bit of a mystery. It's a Remington No. 3 although it lacks any markings to distinguish it as such aside from a small bit of text on the back edge. It also has quite an odd serial number prefix that I haven't been able to find anywhere. I'm tempted to say it may have been a special use thing that needed to have no brand names on it anywhere for some reason... I mean it's pure speculation, but honestly you come up with some of the best stories when you speculate. It's missing half of one of the knobs that turns the platen on the right side... probably lost it in a bar fight with Hunter S. Thompson in a seedy tavern one cold November evening. I love this print. All eyes are on that fabulous specimen of dancing skill on the left, red skirt flared out dramatically, arms gracefully extended around her jet black hair... she pulls so much focus that dude with the guitar totally hasn't noticed that his hat is doing a runner on him. But me, I'm watching that lady on the right. Sure, she's hunched over all quiet and sedate with her stick, her drab clothes blending into the background... but she's biding her time, you'll s...ee. Any minute now she's going to stand up and toss her simple clothes aside to reveal an even MORE dramatic outfit with an even REDDER skirt and it will be a DANCE OFF and I am SO here for that with my popcorn.
