UPDATE: Kiki is home, her bone marrow results should be in tomorrow. I’ve added a photo of our final bill ($5669.29). Thank you to those who have donated and shared. It means so much. We are close to our goal of $2500.00 and would appreciate any donations or shares of this post Kiki is my 3-year-old baby. We adopted her from bad living conditions as a kitten. Sadly her health went downhill fast in the last week. Looking back at photos to try to pinpoint when this all start...ed she was in good health visually the first two weeks of January. She went from 4.1 kg (9lbs) down to 3kg (6.6lbs) and we took her to our vet on Thursday to find out what was going on with her. On Friday, January 29, 2021, our vet called with the results; her liver and kidney were fine but she had severe anaemia. He told us she would need to be referred to VEC Toronto, a pet hospital, for a blood transfusion and tests to find out what is causing the severe anaemia. We took her to VEC Toronto and she was admitted. The doctor called us an hour later and went over what would need to be done, possibly results and if they could or could not be treated and lastly what our bill would be. Our total bill is $5273.09. I'm not one to put my hand out to ask for help easily, I am usually the giver when it comes to donating to causes and helping those in need. I’ve received hundreds of messages from my community who follows me on Instagram praying for Kiki and many asking if I would accept donations to help with her bill. I have set up a GoFundMe (the link is at the end of this post), but please do not feel obligated to donate. I know a lot of us are struggling financially due to the pandemic. BUT, if you can donate, even $1 I would be forever grateful. Alternatively, some asked if I’d accept other forms of donations due to GFM’s fees. Every night since she was a baby I yell out "mama's going to bed" and she runs from wherever she is up to my bed to snuggle. I can't imagine life without her. I love her so much and my heart is breaking but I am holding out hope she will get better and come home where she belongs! Folks, this is how our kids are feeling. If I am being totally honest, it's how I feel many days too. This 3-minute video BROKE me this morning and I am currently bawling my eyes out. My teen has been struggling and this really hit home knowing this is likely how she has been feeling. It took us FOUR months to get a call back for some mental health help. While I am grateful for that, it should NOT have taken four months to get the help.... If you are feeling down, know that you are not alone. Reach out and speak to someone. We WILL get through this <3
