Canada’s Rich Television and Film Industry Recognized in Historic Awards Ceremony Canada has a had a long and rich television and film industry which has received another accolade and in historic proportions with the announcement of the winners in yesterday’s Emmy Awards ceremony, held each year by the US based National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The Canadian television show Schitt’s Creek, swept the comedy category and won a total of 9 Emmy Awards including B...est Comedy, Best Writing in a Comedy, Best Director in a Comedy and Best Actor, Actress and Supporting Actor and Actress. Produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), the show is the first comedy series ever to sweep all four major acting categories and the first comedy series to win in all seven comedy categories. No Canadian-made television show has achieved such historic accolades. It is a strong testament to the quality of the arts in Canada. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel in Los Angeles, the awards were handed out in a virtual ceremony and the cast and crew of Schitt’s Creek accepted their awards from historic Casa Loma in Toronto, Canada. The show was shot in and around the Toronto area and takes place in the small fictitious town of Schitt’s Creek, Ontario. The comedy series stands for love and kindness and inclusivity and acceptance and reflects many of the values that Canada is known for worldwide, making Canada a favourite destination for newcomers.
