Webinar: Here is an opportunity for reparations: "The Christian Doctrine of Discovery and the notion of terra nullius (no-one’s land), were a basis for the colonization of Indigenous peoples on Turtle Island. There is an urgent need for the #Catholic faith communities to act with humility on our responsibility to repair this harm. As we heard from respected #Indigenous leaders, support for Bill C-15 will move us one step closer to a more just society where Indigenous people...s’ contributions are valued and their human rights respected. Can anyone seriously ask Indigenous people to have confidence in our sincerity to reconcile if we stymie this framework from acceptance once again? asked Centre Oblat A Voice For Justice executive director Joe Gunn. It is time to take up our responsibility to build, not block, reconciliation. This bill is a necessary step forward.

We often wonder if what we do in our personal lives to care for the planet and people is enough to make a difference on the greater scheme of things. This article says "yes." So keep doing what you doing baby! "Maybe you gave up meat for Lent, turned down the thermostat a couple of degrees, or made a conscious effort to use less plastic. As the liturgical season draws to a close, you may wonder how to make that habit permanent or whether your individual behavior even makes a difference, given the enormity of the planet's climate emergency. Experts say the answer to that second question is definitely "yes," and it's easier to keep up climate-friendly practices started during Lent if you share the journey with like-minded people."

#divestment #fossilfuels "Canada’s five largest banks have a problem. And it’s a big one. Big to the tune of $726 billion, according to the new Banking on Climate Chaos report published March 24. RBC, TD, Scotiabank, CIBC and BMO have poured that much money into fossil fuel companies since the Paris Agreement was signed Dec. 12, 2015. RBC is at the top of the list in Canada and is the world’s fifth-largest financier of fossil fuels and it’s not just oil and gas. Despite it being the 21st century, RBC keeps financing the fuel of the 19th century, putting more than $14 billion into coal mining and coal-related companies from 2018 to 2020."
