Had a lovely time today with the participants of the London CNIB at Fanshawe Conservation Area. A walk across the top of Fanshawe Dam, learned some neat facts about local flora and fauna, and fed the chickadees!

Muskrats can be found at Fanshawe Conservation Area Pittock Conservation Area - UTRCA Wildwood Conservation Area Muskrats can swim under water for 20 minutes! T...hey have a second set of lips that closes behind their front incisors so they can dive underwater, chew and eat without swallowing water. Cattail shoots are their favourite food. Their front incisors keep growing so they need to gnaw on branches to keep them under control. Predators include coyote, eagle, fox, raccoon, and mink. Fun to watch these two muskrats on the halloween day! #muskrats Tourism Oxford Conservation Ontario

Attention Campers-Advanced notice for Paving Operations at Front Gate Area: The next stage of the VMP Extension Project will create interruptions at our entrance at 1424 Clarke Road. These interruptions will be designated for paving. Monday September 28-Wednesday September 30 Monday October 5-Wednesday, October 7 Tuesday October 13-Thursday October 15 ... Note that there will be no access via Clarke Road and Front Gate. Detour signs will direct camper and all traffic to the park's north gate at the East end of Fanshawe Park Rd. Each week the north gate will open at midnight, the night before paving starts, and close at midnight on the last day of paving. Do not forget your swipe card, or you will not gain entry.
The watermain shut down at Fanshawe CA entrance on Clarke Rd. is now finished and water supply has been restored to the property. Thank you for your cooperation and patience with this project! This afternoon FCA staff will be opening up the campground washrooms and locking the porta johns. We also will be running some taps throughout the park to allow for air to escape. It might be a good idea at your campsite to run a tap for a bit to allow air to escape and also freshen the line.
ATTENTION-There will be a planned water service interruption at FCA Wednesday, September 16 (tomorrow). This interruption in service is for connection of the UTRCA water line to the new city water line, as part of the VMP construction. There will be no water to campsites and campground washrooms will be closed for the day. Each washroom will have a portable toilet provided and the washrooms in day use will remain open. Expected to only last a day. Sorry for the inconvenience

Took a walk at our conservation areas after the recent rain and the fungi have come to life! There are more than 5,000 species of fungi in Ontario. These photo...s give a glimpse of the diversity of shapes and colours! Fungi and bacteria are essential to many of the most basic ecosystem processes: saprobic fungi break down fallen wood and litter returning nutrients to the soil, and nitrogen-fixing bacteria and mycorrhizal fungi assist plants to obtain nutrients from the soil.
