Find out Friday episode #44 Do cows have 4 stomachs? Yes and no. Yes, if you believe popular culture, no in reality! They have one stomach with 4 compartments. Cows can pick up metal when they are grazing and it can eventually puncture their innards. Farmers will put a magnet down into their rumen to attract any metal they inadvertently injest. It will stay in there for their entire life. Twisted stomach: also known as displaced abomasum. This is a condition that can occur after calving, and requires a veterinary to perform a somewhat simple surgery to basically "untwist" things. The calf had taken up quite a large space in the abdomen of the cow, and after calving, and before everything can rearrange itself, sometimes things go awry.
