#FunFact Decades of poaching have taken their toll on rhino species. In vitro fertilization treatments were announced in 2018 in an effort to keep the subspecies of the northern white rhinoceros alive: this subspecies has unfortunately only two females alive. The goal is to create viable embryos in a lab by inseminating the eggs of the two remaining females with frozen sperm from dead males, and then transferring them to a surrogate mother, a southern white rhino.... Due to travel restrictions imposed by COVID19, the plans have been put on hold. We wholeheartedly hope that science will allow the reintroduction of the species. We could potentially send our wonderful embryologists as reinforcements.

It was with great joy and relief that we learned yesterday of the Quebec government’s decision to table a bill to restore public funding for infertile couples. By tabling Bill 73, we now have a better understanding of the parameters for the return of Quebec's public medically assisted procreation program. Bill 73 has yet to be debated in parliamentary committee and approved by a vote from the Quebec National Assembly, regardless, we view it as a step in the right direction. I...nfertile couples have finally been heard. We believe that the current bill lays the foundations for a public program that we want to be sustainable and fair for our patients. We will carefully study the details of this bill and hope to be able to intervene in a parliamentary committee in order to improve it, given our experience in the field. Over time, we hope the bill will be refined, improved, for the benefit of all stakeholders. To all infertile couples, to all our patients, you can count on our commitment to defend your interests. Since the 80's, Dr Miron has been involved in all of the battles. He founded several assisted reproduction programs, he proposed the tax credit to the late Bernard Landry, Minister of the Economy at the time. He was present in parliamentary committee alongside Julie Snyder and the former president of the Association of infertile couples, Caroline Amireault, during the implementation of the previous program. Today, Dr Miron has the entire Fertilys team by his side and our entire team is committed to utilizing his experience and know-how to the benefit of infertile couples but also to assist the government in making the Quebec medically assisted procreation public program a real success.
