Did you get overheated in summer or cold in winter? We always recommend wearing thermal underwear, when riding in a membrane gear. Some time ago, there was a post about weaknesses of cotton under the gear. You can find it in our Finntrail. Wading Gear profile. So this time we'll focus on proper layering. Cold seasons... It's quite obvious why you should have thermal underwear in cold seasons - it wicks perspiration away from the parts of the body with excessive sweating and keeps you warm. Easy! Hot seasons In hot summer seasons your body temperature is increasing fast, that might be dangerous for your health. In this case, thermal underwear is keeping you cool enough to be in comfort. How to Choose Winter Gear You might have seen a post with a checklist for winter ridings. This time we've prepared a list of 4 point to think about when choosing winter gear. They are referred to the main gear elements - helmet, suit, boots and gloves: Wind Resistance... No matter what type of riding you choose, there always will be high speed. Your gear must protect you from cross wind especially in winter. Water Resistance Snow is melting and winter riding can become really wet. And wet gear leads to getting cold. So be sure that your gear is waterproofed. Durability As we posted earlier about hole proof wading boots, other parts or your gear must be protected from pin holes and cutting, too. One inaccurate move in forest might end quite bad for your jacket, waders and wallet. Warmth Anyway, you'll need excess warm while calm riding in winter, never mind the extreme one. This feeling of freezing hands or legs is devastating. And a few more important rules: 1. Shoes and liner should be like thermal underwear. They must remove perspiration fast and keep you dry and warm. 2. Alternative suits like ski outfits are made for skiing, not off-road. Otherwise, you'll get upset right after the first day of quad riding. 3. For a mountain sledding choose overalls or bib overalls.
