Book Review - Pontiac Trans Am - 50 Years by Tom Glatch. I finally got around to reading the latest addition to my Pontiac library (thank you Corona Virus). The reason this particular book sat around for 6 months is that when I first flipped through it, I didn't like it. I was expecting a 50 year history of the Trans Am. This book lacks the details I loved. Lots of other books provide better facts, figures and photos. Now I understand the book. Sitting back down tonight and... reading the book cover to cover the unique place on the Firebird book shelf is. Author Tom Glatch has written a history of the cultural aspects of the Trans Am. This book does the best job yet of telling the story of Firebirds and Trans Ams in the movies and TV shows. Coverage of the special edition Trans Ams in Smokey and the Bandit is particularly well covered. That's the authors passion which clearly explains the cover (I think that's his car too). The second best part of the book for me is the story behind the famous screening chicken hood decals. What became an iconic element of the Trans Am was fought by senior management for several years before finally being released to the buying public. Tom Glatch also touches on some of the marketing efforts. I think that had this book been titled "Trans Am, 50 years in American Culture", I would have understood it and enjoyed it the first time so picked it up. Final note - Page 146 includes a photo from my Firehawk book, much to my surprise. Still not sure how that happened but the author did approach the person who provided the photo to me for the Firehawk book.

Hello Firehawk and Comp T/A fan. I am going to publish the latest Firehawk market data this afternoon on my Firehawk book Facebook page. I thought I would try a Facebook LIVE broadcast as a new way to discuss the info and interact. Got to make this home isolation interesting! I am planning to go live at 4:00 PM Mountain time (that's 6:00 pm Eastern, 5:00 pm Central and 3:00 pm Pacific time)

Well apparently our parent's car, that we loathed to drive to high school, is now worth more than your average low mileage Firehawk. It's what someone is willing to pay! In this case $45,000! There were 8 bidders still in over $25,000. Nostalgia is hot apparently. One bidder stated he wanted to drive it to his high school reunion. WOW! Have you notice that if bidding is active, the BoT site extends the time. Policy statement "Auction end time will be extended if bids are received in the final 2 minutes. The auction ends 2 minutes after the last bid is received." It works! https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1978-ford-county-squire/

NO SALE - Did not meet reserve - 1995 Firehawk headed to the Mecum auction on Glendale, AZ this week. This car was listed at a local AZ dealer for $24,950. https://www.mecum.com//AZ0320-404560/1995-pontiac-trans-a/

Yesterday the new owner of a 1995 Firehawk registered his car in the SLP Registry database. This was a new car to the data and one of the few 1995 Firehawks with a red leather interior. Well this got me thinking about how rare this combo is so I did some digging. The CompNine sourced database on 1995 Firebirds reports that 31 Firehawks came with red leather interiors. The CompNine data is incomplete and is missing 62 USA SLP cars and the 13 Canadian Firehawks. If a simila...r rate of selecting that option is applied, there could be as many as 34 red leather interior cars build for the USA. I know of 2 of the 13 Canadian 1995 Firehawks having red leather which raises the total to at least 33 and possible as many as 36. Comparing the CompNine data to the Firehawk Registry, the data lines up well. I have excluded the Canadian cars from the Firehawk registry entries as they are not in the CompNine data due to the absence of the R6V RPO code.

Ignore the silly Annualized return calculations, but this article is a good example of how the same car can get wildly different values at different auctions within a year. The 91 1LE Formula sold both times through Barrett Jackson yet dropped $8,800 (-47%). I just noticed a response to the article and added it below from the 1LE former owner. Now the current owner has replied! Small world. https://www.hagerty.com//06/10-best-and-worst-flips-of-2019

A 2002 Firehawk is live on the Bring-A-Trailer online auto action site. This site has gained a lot of popularity lately and I am watching to see how this Firehawk does being sold on "BoT". The car #405 for 2002. It has not been advertised for sale in the past three years that I've spotted.. It's a six thousand mile silver Trans Am Firehawk coupe with ebony leather and a 6 speed and only the base Firehawk package. Last known location before this ad was Maryland. The averag...e asking price I've seen on all websites for similar Firehawk Trans Am coupes is around $27,000 and selling closer to $23,000. UPDATED - Sold for $25,000 after 21 bids. Right in the middle of the projected range. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2002-pontiac-firebird-12/
