https://www.linkedin.com//melissa-gole-a12b3125_research-a While this study was originated in the U.S. there is little doubt that the same holds true for many countries around the world. I believe we are about to face a huge increase in PTSD as our front line personnel deals with the COVID-19 pandemic. It is time to start thinking seriously about a proactive approach to PTSD. One that includes family/loved ones. In reading the attached post I noted a higher rate of PTSD in... members who were divorced. Is it possible that at least part of the reason they are divorced is because of their PTSD? That their spouse/partner felt helpless and abandoned? That those closest to them could not possibly understand because of a simple lack of knowledge and guidance? Family support is critical. I absolutely believe that in order to move from PTSD to living in what we call "post traumatic growth", we will require professional AND personal support. Our partners/spouses, children and those closest to us will also gave their own mental health issues as we unintentionally expose them through our behaviours. When we retire, the job won't love us back. We have family and close friends that will be there for us when we hang up our work gear one last time. If stigma is your reason for not getting help then consider those closest to you personally. As a result of my going years before been diagnosed, I hurt many others. I want to share my knowledge and lived experience with you and prepare you for what will likely happen. I do this so you have a choice. You have the choice to minimize the impact on self and those closest to you. It is about saving relationships, families and lives. See more

So beautifully written. There is nothing more to add.

In April of 2015 a very concerned and courageous Bridget Turner did an interview with CBC Edmonton. She had lost her husband Greg, an Edmonton Paramedic, only 3 months earlier to PTSD and feared it might happen to others. That interview was the turning point for me and the reason I created the First Eyes Proactive Family Mental Health Program. 5 years later, she has come up with this very touching way to keep the conversation going. Please share and support this if you can. Thank you. Dan
