when the heat is on we pull out some good old fashion water play.
how do we beat the heat! plenty of outdoor time. Everything a classroom does inside they can do outside and here is our staff showing us just that.
Just a reminder we are closed Monday may 20, 2019. for the long weekend

We are attending the WCB job fair at the Millard health clinic, we are pleased to offer people who are looking at changing careers a chance to see if childcare is right for them.
Recently we have started adding in more loose parts into our program, loose parts are any item that doesnt have a set way to play with it for example Legos are a commercial loose part. we have decided to lean toward more items that have been recycled or are from the outside world. we are slowly teaching our students new ways to use loose parts as well as our staff, which is why we are hosting a working shop on magical plays-capes and loose parts on may 13th from 6:30-8:00. We are very passionate about continuing our education here at first step daycare, for both our children and our educators. if you would like to join us for our magical plays-cape workshop please email us at [email protected]
we wanted to give a big thank you to Kentwood Ford for donating used tires to our outdoor play area. We really appreciate you supporting the learning of all our little ones and being such a great supporter of other business in the community. THANK YOU
We hosted a workshop on Tuesday through the speech pathologist of Alberta. we welcomed daycares from all over the area to this free event and even gave a tour of our facility. One of things we are so greatful for at first step daycare is having access to transportation at any time. Our van helps us visit so many places, today we decided to go to the muttart conservatory on a whim. It was so fun and a great experience. So far our spring break has been a success.
today is the last day for our steeped tea fundraiser, if anyone wants to order please come see Hannah the director of our Griesbach location. She will be taking orders till 4:00 oclock. If you didnt want to order tea and just wanted to donate towards our goal of a large gross motor area for our centre, no worries we are taking donations till the end of the first week of April. We also have some wonderful thank you gifts for the parents who fund-raised the most and donated the most to our cause. thank you once again for all your support, every little bit helps the children.
Recently our after school children have gotten into chess, Its amazing to see how strategic they are with the game, this game lasted over 20 minutes!
we are so pleased with our latest addition to our backyard, we were lucky enough to find these amazing stumps for free. even though the tree had to come its wood is getting amazing second life here at first step daycare.
we went to the police station near us for a field trip, children made a card that thanked the officers for their hard work of keeping us safe. Children and staff were able to get a tour through the station and receive whistles from the police officers.
At first step daycare we have a few staff continuing their education to achieve their Early learning and Care diploma, at our last staff meeting we got into a discussion about science activities and how do we provide science activities to younger children. SIMPLE!! you cook with them. cooking is a great way to introduce children to early math and science skills by mixing and measuring the ingredients. At first step daycare we are constantly looking at new ways to keep children involved in their daily routine and have them learn new skills. This time we learned how to make muffins. They were delicious.
We love to do participate in a variety of physical activities here at first step daycare. here are our lovely green room doing some yoga.
We are so blessed to have a community agreement with Funky petals flower shop, they are kind enough to donate any old flowers to our center for sensory play. Feels like spring to us already!
First Step Daycare has partnered with steeped tea to host a fundraiser, we are raising money for gross motor equipment in our classrooms. Steeped tea is a Canadian company that sells all ethically produced loose leaf tea and tea essentials. Heres how it works, all the tea and infusers are on sale for 12 dollars, First Step Daycare gets 40% of all the proceeds. Your welcome to message our Facebook page for your orders and pick it up at the daycare or come on by the centre to place your order here. Its the perfect time to order because your tea will be in by Mothers Day. So come support our children and support an amazing Canadian company.
What a very fun parents night. A huge thank you to gaelyn from steeped tea in offering us some free goodies and supporting our centre in our next fundraiser. Hope to see more families at the next parents night.
Right now we are at the childcare fair at the fort road victory church. Come on by and see our booth, we have some wonderful toys and art displayed.
We want to wish all families a very Happy Family day and remind them we are closed Monday February 18, 2019. Thank you so much for your understanding.
Sorting items by colour and size is a great way to build on future math skills, often when families are concerned about children becoming school ready we share some of the fun activities we do at First Step Daycare that do help with their future school accomplishments. math isnt just about numbers or addition. Sorting, ordering, and building also lay the foundation for future math learning. As kids explore these concepts in our program, we use math language to help them des...cribe relationships and ask (or answer!) questions. Sorting introduce kids to small objects that come in different colors, shapes, and sizes (like pattern blocks or table-top blocks). We might ask, Are these two blocks the same? or Can you find all of the red blocks? Over time, introduce more challenges that involve sorting by shape, size, and so on. To learn about ordering we line up all of the drawing toolscrayons, pencils and markersin the classroom. We might say, Lets find the smallest crayon! or hold two pencils up and ask, Which is longer? Challenging children to arrange the tools from smallest to largest.
Even our infants like to get down and do some painting. Here they got some help to create feet star fish. Often exposing children to different sensory experiences at such a young age help with their problem solving skills later on. That is why at First Step Daycare it is so important to us to create an environment for our infants that exposes them to many different sensory activities.
How do we support childrens individualism at First Step Daycare.? We focus on what makes them the most proud! Often through out the day children make amazing structures, create beautiful works of art or show off their theatrical side by pretending to be someone else. Every time they show off that special something that just puts a huge smile on their face our staff are there to document and share it with the families. We have a variety of tools we use to stay in touch with families, we use our ipads to send updates via our Himama app, we will print pictures to share with families and post in our rooms. We at First Step Daycare understand that families dont want to miss a minute of those special moments with their child and we make sure to capture every smile and accomplishment.
