Decided to take a break from raking, and take a look at the ice condition. It is starting to pull away from shore, but still pretty thick at the end of the dock. Still to early to start a ice-out contest. Wow, is the lake ever low! We need rain badly.
Wishing everyone a fabulous Easter Weekend.
Wow, where has the time gone! Hard to believe it was 25 years ago today, that we signed for the purchase of Eagle Lake Sportsmen's Lodge. We knew when we bought that we had a lot of hard work a head of us, with challenges. No greater challenge then what we are enduring these days. Over the past 25 years we have been blessed with the pleasure of meeting so many people that have touched in our lives. We are truly the luckiest people to have all of you in our lives. We cannot wait to see each and everyone of you. To shake hands and hug again will be our greatest joy.
This is the sound of anticipation from the dogs excited to do their job running out to check the trapline. This past year has been way different than we expected, but it's nice to be here for the sights and sounds of the Canadian winter.
It may not be sport shows or a warm destination south of the border this winter, but this destination is beyond perfect. Jim built us a Ice-Shack with all of the comforts, as you can see. We have had a lot of fun catching Walleyes. Nice eaters! Our friend Mal, had a birthday yesterday, and his favorite is going to Clearwater Lake for some Lake Trout through the ice. So off to Clearwater Lake for his birthday. They caught some perfect eating sizes and there limit in a sho...rt period. We have been so fortunate with such mild weather so far this winter. All the trees are covered with a frost. So pretty! Tried to get a picture of the camp in the winter from the lake.
Guess who is having a Birthday. Hint, hint. Happy Birthday Jimmy.
Happy Thanksgiving to all Family and Friends.
Let the Ladies shine
LEST WE FORGET.
Yesterday afternoon. This morning.
Who pulled the plug? The lake level has dropped so much that the first section of the dock was literally dry docked. A closer look into it, and we found some rotten boards and need of some new styrofoam billets. Thank God for the excavator.
This is exactly why we have been so upset all summer. Today, the 19th of October and they are just telling us now. A 2 day notice of the extension. We knew the border wasn't going to open, but still. Not that it matters now. Our entire season a bust. Frustrating.
We do love our Country.
I am calling it, "Reflections over Eagle Lake"
No better time then the present, to reflect on better times.
Once again more disappointing news.
We have managed to strike a few job's off the to-do-list, this summer. Soffit and fascia all around the lodge. New forms poured to level and straighten Cabin # 4. And sadly, my old apple tree died.
More disappointing news.
Today we flip the calendar to yet another month of disappointment. Boats are still wrapped and winterized, and no boats parked at the dock. It is getting harder and harder to be optimistic.
The big Walleyes are biting! First Heather catches a 27 1/2" and then a 30". She is one lucky lady. Catch, quick Picture and Release.
The recent news of the border closure extension to August 21st is more hearthbreaking news for Jim and I. Those that know us know how hard we work each and every day, and especially at the beginning of the season opening camp. The costs of opening are substantial, not to mention the upgrades and renovations we typically do. We went through all of those motions in anticipation of opening this spring; after all of those hours of work, we're left with a total disappointment ...as we've already lost the majority of our 2020 season. This closure has been devastating, not just for us, but for all of the shops and businesses in our village. Along with our sadness, we know this closure has also impacted our friends and guests. We hear the disappointment in your voices and messages of support and wish that there was something we could do. One of the most difficult parts of all of this has been the lack of support from our government. On the bright side, we have been fishing a lot! I must say, I've been doing my best to make up for the past 23 years of not being able to get out as much as I'd like. The fish are hungry and we can't wait to see all of you back in camp doing your best to fill your stringers. We miss you and look forward to being beyond these crazy times and back to making memories with you.
A storm just ripped threw camp with high winds, thunder, lightning and a good down pour. The after math is always beautiful!
This is not the news we wanted to hear.
Happy 4th of July.
