PATIENCE . My father taught me how to take care of my family and lead by example My mother taught me how to lean on the Creator and when I show him love, he shows it back 10 fold ... . Raych helped me to see that if the difference between a C-grade and an A is work ethic and effort, why settle for a pass? She did it many times and still is on it now . Jam inspired me to change directions in my career without fear of starting from the bottom as I watched her go from potential top-tier chef back to top-tier educator knowing that it was going to take humility and hard-work . My guy Kev showed me the ropes when I first started as a trainer and wasn’t afraid to call me out when I was playing below my potential . My wife believed in my skill, energy, and spirit and showed me how to earn her trust - with an honest heart and action behind my words . Just a couple of lessons I’ve learned in my lifetime thus far. But the one they all taught me in more ways than one is how to have patience. A lesson I’ll always appreciate and cherish because patience earned me experience, opportunities for growth and progression, contributed to the building of my brand, and has helped me to stay F O C U S E D amidst the distractions Granted I’m still waiting on mine; in the meantime, I keep working, moving one step closer, giving all I can - my best even at my worst . This week marks the final week of PRJCT8 2.0 Season 1 - Evaluation Pt 2 . A special shoutout goes to all of the team members who came to work hard, hit the floor, and hustle with us each week. We understand the struggle and the sacrifice made to put the work in every session and rest assured we appreciate every one of you for your efforts .... Be proud of what you accomplished, your commitment to your goals even if you didn’t hit all of your targets. You did what you could and you made it happen to the best of your ability and that’s all we could ask for . Even though the program is complete, that doesn’t mean the work you put in ends here. Continue to make strides towards improvement on all levels - mentally, physically, and nutritionally. You have seen what you’re capable of and believe me - you have the potential to do more! Continue to make activity a healthy habit in your life; be grateful for the opportunity given to move everyday and continue to lead by example for your family, your circle, your neighbours, friends, co-workers, and the rest of your team. HUMILITY /(h)yoomild/ a modest or low view of one's own importance; humbleness... . . I don’t know about you, but I love when I’m humbled in some way, shape, or form because it keeps me on my toes and reminds me that I am no better than anyone else, not above anyone else, and that sometimes, you need to be checked . Two times this week, most recently today, I was checked by two of my clients for not meeting my own standard of commitment. Although their intention was not to make me feel bad, it helped me to step back, breathe, analyze, and apologize for such lack of action on my part. It also serves as a reminder to me that even though I’m working hard, hustling, grinding, knocking down doors, hitting targets, and doing my best to lead by example, sometimes I have to take a seat and be humble . When things are clicking for you and moves are being made, the human tendency to ignore your blind spot happens which can lead to a crash, minor or major, which can result in major falls that can be difficult to return from . I’m grateful for the lessons I’ve learned and continue to learn from, not to mention the people who aren’t afraid to say Coach, you’re my guy but you need to know something... I appreciate such honesty and welcome it at any time. The old me would have sat in distress and question my abilities as a coach/trainer; the upgraded version can only smile, nod, acknowledge, and move accordingly . So to everyone that I have worked with in the past or work with now, I apologize for missing the mark. Spent the afternoon reflecting on the month of June. Some major moments or starting points have occurred in the 6th month of the calendar year: June marked the end of a school year (elementary and high school) and the start of summer money June 14, 2019 Was the start of life as a married man for my guy and big bro @andrewdirosa (Happy Anniversary)... June 13, 2019 the @raptors won their 1st NBA Championship (and still are reigning champs by the way) June 12, 2009 - GoodFITT was born . 11 years from the day I registered my company name and began the process of establishing my fitness career, I had the pleasure of seeing another up-and-coming pro @kadeem_robley sign the papers for co-ownership of his first training facility (congratulations chief) . Time flies and the struggle has been real but every obstacle, challenge, slip and fall, fail, moment of doubt, discouraging comment, missed shot, and dollar spent have all been worth the time, effort, and energy put in to make it work...not forgetting to mention the examples set by my peers and experienced professionals that have pushed me so far out of my comfort zone, I don’t even know where that place is anymore . . Gratitude is...an opportunity to view life, not as a test, but as a blessing. Listened to that quote among many in an audio clip my mother-in-law was playing last night that resonated with me the most .... Daily I make it a goal to make mental note of write down 3 things that I am grateful for on a sticky note placed in a can before I get started. It helps me to be at ease, be at peace, and to breathe . Considering daily what you are grateful for not only helps you to eliminate the distractions that flood our mind visually and audibly, but it also can serve as a reminder that although your situation may not be ideal now, it has the potential get better . Life has its struggles, and sometimes those struggles come in drops of rain to a torrential downpour with everything else in between. But think about what the opportunities for growth that the rain produces as opposed to the grief, pressure, and discomfort it generates in the moment . Pause and take a moment to identify what you’re grateful for. This video was my second attempt at a 4-Plate Back Squat (405 lbs) . The music in the background, the sounds that surrounded me, and the eyes watching were not a factor in whether I made it or not .... Focus was involved Concentration Breathing Power Belief were just a couple of elements that vital to the execution of this challenge, with the most important being support - energy that I was able to draw from the guys around me . It was weight I had never carried before, a new experience that could had potential to go left But succeeding was the only option . The lesson? We’re all carrying weight that we’re not used to; a new experience that no one has been able to say yeah I’ve been through that before. In times like these, we could all use a boost, we could all use support, we could all use encouragement - even if it’s out of your element - because the truth is we can’t do this alone . Now is a great time to learn about yourself - define your strengths, identify your weaknesses, and consider in what ways you can be better for others . If it’s within our power to be means of encouragement, energy, or empowerment to others - close to us and at a distance - why not do it? .
