We’re delighted to announce a unique new opportunity for Indigenous post-secondary students: the Totah Cares Bursary. Created by Roberta Jamieson, outgoing Pres...ident & CEO of Indspire, the Totah Cares Bursary represents a total of $50,000 over two years ($25,000 per year), with matching funds provided by the Government of Canada. It’s designed to provide support to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis learners who have been raised by their grandparents or extended family, students who have been in care, or those who are pursuing studies in a children’s health-related field like child & youth care, child & youth counselling, child & family services, or youth & childcare worker. The very first application deadline is February 1, 2021. Interested (or know someone who might be interested)? Check it out here! https://indspire.ca/progra/students/bursaries-scholarships/ Important: if you’ve already applied for BBF during our Aug 1 or Nov 1, 2020 deadline, you DON’T need to apply again we’re already looking at your application! :) This is for new applicants only. #IndigenousEducation #BBF #IndigenousYouth #Education #Bursary

#OrangeShirtDay is an annual event to recognize the individualized experiences of residential school survivors and those who are no longer with us, its lasting generational impacts, and to commit to reconciliation. It is a somber realization that while much has changed, we still have so far to go. Some reports state that there have been more Indigenous children in the care of child welfare system than in the time of residential schools. Yesterday, news broke in BC of the deat...h of another Indigenous child while in the care of the government. We send out love to all those affected, you are of value and you do matter. #Fleming #CYC aims to adhere to the Indigenous Educational Protocols, be authentic in our administration of our Indigenous Perspectives Designation, advocate for the #regulation of both Child and Youth Care and residential care while always striving to learn more. Looking to find out just what regulation is? See https://oacyc.org//social-awareness-and-political-activism/ #regulateONCYCP We encourage everyone to use today to learn about oppression as well as Indigenous Ways of Being, broadening your understandings of the world. Then pledge to do something different to contribute to change, including re-distribution of power. #culturalhumility #antioppression #antiracism When you know better, you do better.
