LONG CAPTION: please read, we feel this is very important. Hello Victoria. The situation our industry is facing right now is unprecedented. After running and operating organic food service businesses in Victoria for 20 years, we are now facing our most complex challenge. Our business model has always been to rely on the best quality, locally grown organic ingredients. We strive to keep our food accessible and we pride ourselves in providing high quality daily staples that we ...hope contribute to the well-being of our community. We also aim to provide stimulating and engaging employment, while paying our employees decent living wages and giving them a great work/life balance. Producing food with great ingredients and paying our staff appropriately comes at a cost. We believe that we have to support and invest in our local food economy if we want to keep it alive and healthy. We feel it is our duty in this time of crisis to purchase from our neighbours and local businesses as this is what will contribute to better our local economy. We feel the same way about supporting our staff. We’ve decided to pay our staff better (wages really well deserved) considering all the risks involved and all the efforts they put in day in day out. Our employees are the foundation of our business. We have the most amazing staff and they make it all happen, without them our operation is pretty lifeless. We’ve made some significant changes in order to remain viable as a business. We increased safety and sanitation procedures, reduced traffic, etc. to ensure the safety of our staff and our customers. All of these measures also come at a cost. Covid-19 has impacted everyone, the Government support programs have not helped us much. After various exemptions, wages subsidies that were touted at 75% for weeks end up being closer to 30% in our case. This comes after we have had to carry that expense several weeks before seeing any of it back, at a time when we really do not have the financial latitude to do so. We are falling behind with suppliers, tax remittances.We have decided to raise our prices in order to practice business according to our beliefs and to better support our staff and suppliers. We are moving away from the tipping system that has been problematic for so long. Many other areas of the world have already done this and we feel now is the best time to do this here as well. You don't need to tip, just be nice, it's all good. It's a great simple system, in fact how we buy most things! Our staff will still offer the same great service. Please frequent us as much as you can, tell your friends and family! We feed a city and support the local economy, but we can't do it without you. We feel strongly that everyone should have access to good quality food,we are also very understanding of limited budgets even for necessities like groceries and hope our food can still be a regular part of your life. hello! we have some good news for our dockside customers from monday 25th may, we will be reopening with window/door service from 9-3 every single day! thank you for your patience with us during this time, we can’t wait to welcome you back to our little bakery

good afternoon as of tomorrow, Monday 30th March, we will be running operations from 10-3 everyday, at our Yates street location only. This has been a heartbreakingly difficult decision to make as our connection to the community at Dockside Green has been a fundamental part of our ethos as a bakery for over a decade. We feel that this is the next step we need to take to make sure we can continue to provide our services at a more concise and streamlined capacity, that is be...st for our staff and customers and encourages the longevity of our operations in these uncertain times. We have been so honoured to be a lasting part of your daily routines and we are so thankful to the dockside community for making us who we are today. We hope to serve you at Yates, where you’ll see some familiar faces from behind our window - however if you absolutely cannot make it downtown, Clif is personally going to take a limited amount of bread orders for pick up at Dockside. Please be courteous and only use this service if it is completely necessary to you. Any orders would need to be submitted before 9am by emailing [email protected] and coordinated directly with Clif. we encourage you to be socially responsible and distant right now but if you find yourself in need of grocery items, we are offering a limited selection of low contact grocery at Yates. eggs, milk, cream, coffee beans, fresh soup, frozen soup (1l/500ml), bagged salad, meat, flour, granola, crostini, bread. sandwiches from our kitchen, pastries and coffee as usual. Dockside is open too, with their usual offerings. please continue exercising patience as we navigate this, be responsible and kind. we intend on being open 9-5 again but will let you know if that changes.

hello vic, today and until further notice we have decided to reduce our hours to 9-5 every day for both dockside and downtown locations. both locations will be operating as take away only at this time. this is a monumentally hard decision to make but in the interest of staff and public safety at this time, we think it is an important first step. obviously as things develop we may need to re-evaluate so please keep an eye out. thank you again for your invaluable support, we do not take this lightly and are doing our upmost best to be socially responsible while supporting our staff.
