The Iris OG model is a 00-sized guitar that’s shaped and voiced similarly to an early 50’s Gibson LG-2. It’s a punchy and responsive guitar with lots of volume, solid midrange and an impressive bass response for a guitar from the 00-sized family. Visit our site for more details!

We’ve just received this new stunning Taylor 814ce. Couldn’t resist getting some bright sunlight on that pearl rosette for the photos! The 814ce is now built with a radius style rosewood armrest as a standard feature, which is a welcomed upgrade this this model. It’s a gorgeously appointed instrument.

Some top crack repairs are more involved than others. This is the Sat-on-at-a-party-long-before-Covid 1947 LG-2. Still a long, long way off from completion, but a little bit closer now. Nothing terribly fancy going on here, but I think it looks interesting enough to share. ... The top cracks are being glued while the simple wedge system is pushing everything together; the clamps and 25 lb sandbag are keeping things properly aligned. The treble-side crack was done yesterday. It follows the grain at the outside edge of the pickguard to within 2 of the top, and all the way to the bottom of the plate.

The DSS-17 is a wonderful sounding guitar, with a tone that blends classic early 1940's Slope-shouldered Dreadnought tone with a modern D-18. It is warm, dark, powerful, and incredibly well balanced, with bold trebles, a full midrange, and well-articulated bass. Great for flat-picking, strumming and fingerstyle, the DSS-17 is a guitar that truly does it all well.

A delightfully lightly built guitar with scalloped braces, small maple bridge plate, pyramid bridge, VTS red spruce top and Madagascar rosewood back and sides, the 000-30 Authentic 1919 is a highly responsive, resonant, and complex 12 fret fingerstyle guitar. Here’s a stunningly ornate C Wheatstone concertina built circa 1860, which recently arrived to the shop with its original wooden case. Charles Wheatstone was a British scientist and inventor in the Victorian era accredited with a number of inventions including the stereoscope and Wheatstone concertina! Call for pricing

An evolutionary cul-de-sac in the development of the modern steel string guitar, Martin’s R-18 was a flat-top/archtop hybrid that featured a thin pressed X-braced top with a slight arch, trapeze tailpiece and floating bridge, steep archtop-style neck angle, and a braced flat back. It’s either a warm and dark archtop, or a punchy 00-sized flat-top with lots of midrange presence and focus - depending on where your own playing style and biases lie. And it’s this week’s heartthrob here at the shop. We’re going to keep it around for a while for proper documentation.

Nightshift guitar repair going on here with a 1933 Martin R-18 on the bench - the little sibling of Martin’s C-1 archtop. Unlike the carved C-1, the R-18 has a pressed top that is just a bit thicker than a normal flattop top and features a beefed up X flattop style X bracing, complete with a little maple bridgeplate. It is interesting to compare this model with Gibson’s flattop guitars that featured trapeze tailpieces and archtop-style bridges at around the same time. ... Both Martin and Gibson were trying out bold new ideas in the early days of steel string guitar-making in the late 20’s and early ‘30’s.

André was a mentor of mine for years and although I knew him only through email (he lived in France) he was always happy to share his knowledge and engage in discussions with me about the finer details of Gibson model history. In an age where knowledge is often guarded and actual first hand experience is rare, André was always the one to openly offer the fruits of his decades-long career of research to all of us in this vintage guitar community. His contributions to the un...derstanding of vintage guitar history cannot be understated. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. I hope to do my small part to carry on his life’s work with the same guiding principles of community and sharing. Thank you, André. Rest In Peace. - Mark
