Forbes Wild Foods is hiring market staff! We are currently looking for someone for part time sales work at a Saturday farmers market. The candidate should be gregarious, outgoing and interested in food/food culture. You will be responsible for building and maintaining market displays/table, responding to customer’s inquiries and assisting customers with purchases. Duties also include weighing and calculating the price of fresh products, customer service, transporting market k...it. This job does require lifting of boxes that weigh upwards of 50lbs. The candidate will have some familiarity with cooking and act non-judgmental towards other people’s diets. Knowledge/interest of wild and indigenous foods as well as our product line are certainly assets. Compensation is $15 per hour + 5% commission on sales above $500 and 10% commission on sales above $800 + travel expenses. Sales typically average $700-$1100 depending on the week and what is in season. ( You make about $170 - $200 for the shift ) Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations. Must provide own vehicle and hold a valid G2 or G class driver's license, and be willing to work early Saturday mornings. This job may lead to more opportunities for commission based sales or hourly work at our new location at 2 Matilda Street. What doesn't sell will be processed for seed and frozen pawpaw pulp. 2.5 year old Saplings will be available April/May and the fruit will be available again next October 1st. BLACK TRUMPETS OF DEATH! Lovely black trumpets - craterellus cornucopioides and craterellus fallax are an amazing autumn mushroom full of rich earthy and almost chocolaty flavour. If you love mushrooms, this is the week to visit us. Right now we have indigo milk caps, two types of hedgehog mushrooms, two kinds of lions mane, two kinds of yellow foot chanterelles, a puffball, hen of the woods, chicken of the woods and some birch boletes.... I'm probably forgetting something... Oh yeah, black trumpets! All of our mushrooms this week are harvested in Ontario. Super exciting time of the year! Click through the photos.
