Fort McMurray Sleigh Rides 06.06.2021

While we are still closed to the public due to the lockdown, we have been putting our time and effort to good use, training up the boys. Avedis (left) and Avatar (right) will not be ready for this season as they are still too young and have a bunch more growing to do. But we figured you might like a sneak peak of them anyways. Plus, who doesn’t love the sweet sound of sleigh bells in the snow? Ps can you tell who the younger naughtier brother is?

Wow Fort Mcmurray! The love we have been getting from you guys is simply incredible! While checking trail today I took a short clip for you all, so you can understand what we are dealing with. This melt has made things very slippery. We have areas that are slush, and those areas turn to solid ice as soon as it cools off overnight. We have many many areas melted all the way through to bare dirt and gravel. Horses cannot walk effectively on ice, and it’s a very large chance s...he could fall and hurt herself. That chance only increases when she has a load she needs to pull. The sleigh itself has Teflon runners for ease of movement over properly packed snow. This is so she can better pull the heavy load without too much additional strain to her body. The downside is Teflon is very soft and galls easily, so running it over dirt, gravel, or ice chews it up and ruins the surface making it more difficult to pull instead of easier. Thirdly, we are The Only Commercially insured equine business in Fort Mcmurray, and in order to maintain that, we must comply with all provincial and city restrictions, including those about COVID. We can hardly wait to meet you all, and share this seasonal treat with you

Hello Fort Mcmurray! We have been very busy these last few months with lots of ground driving and desensitizing. Just a reminder, we do not open up booking for sleigh rides until the snow conditions are met. When we do open them up, we will post the dates here for you to choose from, as that’s when our drivers are available. ... As always, we book in one hour time slots and the sleigh holds either 4 adults or 6 kids in the back plus one up front with the driver at a time. If you have a larger group, we do multiple shorter runs within that hour so everyone gets a turn. We have a fire going for those not on the sleigh to keep warm. The cost is 250$/hour. Hope to see all your smiling faces soon!

I’d like to send a huge thank you out to Greg Mersereau, he’s been giving me a hand with the boys the last couple months. He’s a fellow draft horse and driving trainer/enthusiast who is eagerly anticipating their public debut. With his help, we will also be able to post more (hopefully better quality) videos for you all to follow along on the boy’s journey with us. These two are currently on track to bring joy to you folks for winter 2021/2022!

It’s with a mixed bag of emotions we say goodbye to the fiery red head, Lil Miss. This blue eyed beauty is headed to her new home, in the mountains of BC, for more adventures than she could possibly have here. We thank her for her two wonderful years of service to the Fort Mcmurray community. Happy trails sweet girl, we will always love you!

So we did a thing... We started ground driving the boys They were both driven single then put together. This video is about an hour and a half into their very first day of ground driving. We went up and down the back road, the main road and all over the yard. Absolutely nothing seemed to phase them! We will continue to ground drive, install voice commands and manners to stand rock still when asked for as long as asked. When they have these down pat, we will move on to add th...e double tree and start pulling the tire around. They are still too young for weight or real work but this is the perfect time to instil good habits but by bit over the next 6-9 months. Oh ya, and all done in just a halter! No bridle with blinders or bits yet either, their heads still have growing to do too . We can hardly wait till these gentle giants hit full size!

Hi everyone, Due to social distancing, we have been closed since early March and will remain closed to the public until all this is resolved. The babies are busy growing like weeds and shedding everywhere! They will start into training as soon as the ice is gone and are loving more individual attention. Thanks for looking in on us in the meantime, we hope to be able to reconnect with you all soon.

The future is looking bright! Our new team got home at the end of May and have settled in well. They did amazing in the Canada day parade, nothing seemed to phase them.
