As Canada’s Veterans and a significant segment of the Canadian population age into their senior years, there is a need to ensure programs, services and supports... are in place to address the issues and challenges that face our ageing population. The Royal Canadian Legion is pleased to see a 3 billion dollar commitment to Long Term Care, and in particular, an additional $90 million in funding for a Stay at Home Wellness Program to ultimately benefit our Seniors. GOING GREEN: With no St. Paddy's Day barroom brawls happening again this year, I settled for a peaceful late afternoon masked and distanced Irish dinner at Pres...cott Legion Branch 97, a mound of cabbage, corned beef, potatoes and carrots, followed by cake for dessert. I've never seen so much cabbage on one plate; some diners around me were happy they lived alone so no one had to experience the aftermath. The meal was prepared by retired Armed Forces VIP chef Ray Martin to whom the Legion kitchen is dedicated. This was kids' stuff for Newfoundlander Ray who has served Pierre Trudeau and John Diefenbaker: Justin's dad had a liberal helping of V-8 Juice for breakfast while Dief had a conservative plateful. Ray also fed various members of the Royal Family including the Queen Mom who "had white wine with everything." Beer was greened for the few tame customers in the bar but I didn't stick around; the pall of Covid hung in the air like cabbage. See more
