We have been trying to find a moment to take a photo in front of our building so we can make an announcement, but we're just so busy (thank you Timmins) we haven't found the time. So here's the photo(less) announcement: WE ARE NOW PROUD OWNERS OF 112 SIXTH AVENUE!

For several months, we were searching for a building to move into. We wanted to stay in this neighbourhood, but the options here were limited, so we were seriously looking at other areas of the city. Now, we're happy to say that we've decided to stay put for the time being. We're in the process of purchasing the building we're currently in at 112 Sixth Avenue, so neighbours, we hope you're happy with us. We aren't going anywhere for a while! Everything should be finalized by the end of April. :-D

Seems this is going to become our annual PSA. BUSINESS OWNERS BEWARE of this common scam: An online directory listing company calls and says you owe them hundreds of dollars. You're surprised, because you don't remember authorizing any such listing, but they are able to direct you to the listing which has all your pertinent company info. You tell them they could have gotten this information easily from Google. That's when they play you a recording of your own voice authorizi...ng the listing. On the recording, they tell you the $$ amount of the listing, and there you are saying, "Yes." Only no, you didn't authorize the listing. That recording is the coup d'etat of the scam. They did call you, months ago, but what they did was ask you simple questions about your business that can only have a yes answer. They get a recording of you saying, "Yes," to these innocuous questions and then they splice your voice into a new recording of them asking different questions. Then they call you back months later with a bill in arrears and a recording of you supposedly authorizing it months ago. You think that maybe you just forgot the call and really did authorize it? No, you didn't. Stand your ground. They will threaten to send you to collections and affect your credit. Stand your ground. They cannot send you to collections if they do not have your personal information. A sole proprietorship or partnership doesn't have credit, only you as an individual, and all they have on you is a name and business information. This is NOT ENOUGH to even run a credit check, let alone send your info to a credit bureau for reporting. We've had more than one such directory listing company call us over the past year+ of business. They all say we authorized a listing. We even had one call us in Feb/Mar 2020 to "renew" our annual listing, to which I was able to say, "Interesting, since we only opened a few months ago." They never called back. Business owners beware and, most importantly, trust your instincts. Don't let them bully you into paying just to get them off your back. It's been over a year and they're still calling us. If they were going to send us to collections, they would have by now.

A week ago, our neighbour Joe Simard passed away. Many of our clients knew Joe because he used to own the building that we're in. He was the owner of Joe's Service Station at the corner of Sixth and Birch for many years, and to our knowledge, he kept his automotive license active until the day he died. He was a kind man, very business savvy, and often gave us free advice. He was also one of our very first customers when we opened our doors in 2019. We will not forget Joe. We're celebrating our 1-year anniversary. Goals we accomplished in our first year with YOUR help: - getting a second hoist - buying tire machines and expanding into selling tires - hiring an apprentice - hiring a second mechanic... - paying off our start-up loans Accomplishing just one or two of these goals in our first year would have been major for us. Accomplishing ALL of them is just mind-blowing. Thank you so much everyone for your support!

We hear it all the time you’re in a rough neighbourhood. People who are struggling usually stay central, especially if they don't own a car. It's absolutely necessary for their survival to stay close to where the services and amenities are. But people who are in survival mode physically, emotionally, and spiritually often can’t find what they need in our confusing patchwork of social services. This is where Living Space has played an important role. Not only do they provid...e shelter, food, and essential services to people who are homeless, near homeless, and living in poverty, they are also striving to coordinate with other organizations to help people access the services they need when they need it. As many of you know, we experienced a break-in in August. While we certainly don’t want our property vandalized and ransacked, we don’t blame the neighbourhood, and we certainly don’t blame Living Space. We blame the societal structures that leave people stranded in these desperate and vulnerable situations. This year for the holidays, we want to give back directly to the neighbourhood that we reside in. We are setting up a GIVING + LIVING collection box in our shop and will waive our shop supply fee for any customer who brings in a donation when they come to pick up their vehicle. The donations will go directly to Living Space. Most needed items include: - sealed, non-perishable foods, especially grab and go items like granola bars, fruit cups, etc. - gift cards for local grocery stores and restaurants - stocking stuffer gifts - socks, hats, mitts, and gloves Thank you in advance for supporting us, and in turn helping us support our community.

Today is the ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the day we opened our doors. Thank you to all our clients, suppliers, employees, and other supporters for making our first year AMAZING! Here's to many more!
