Argentine Tango Instructor Training: I received some questions about the training and thought I could share more information here. The training can absolutely be done with or without a partner, whichever is best for you.... I would recommend a minimum of 10 private lessons for the training. There would also be a home study and practice required. As each person is different and learns at their own pace, it's difficult to predict exactly how many lessons it will take. It really will vary depending on the individual. The focus is on both the leader and the follower roles, in great depth. We work on foot position, dance position, system (either Parallel or Cross-System), alignment, amount of turn, the count, and the beat values. We also learn to understand the technical and fine details and quality of all the steps at each level, starting with the first 15 groups in Bronze. You also have to do your own research and study the history, orchestras, and music of Tango. You will learn to describe what makes Argentine Tango different from other dances. All the important movements and foundations of Tango will be included. In the exam, there is both a theoretical and dance portion. Become a better teacher. Expand your understanding of dance concepts, improve your presentation skills, teach precise vocabulary, sharpen your knowledge. You are required to know and dance both the leader and follower’s role. Achieve a standard of professional excellence. I thought Argentine tango was a freestyle dance. Why the need for a syllabus? The syllabus does have 60 variations from Bronze to Platinum. But even from the start, the beginner steps are taught with options to freestyle. This is what makes it fun. You can change the beginning and endings to any figure you learn. I can tell you from my own experience that this syllabus has taught me everything I need to know about Tango. I not only learned fun Tango steps but I also learned ...the language. It made it very easy for me to go to any Tango class in the world and understand the terms and actions of Tango. Argentine Tango Training with Andre Get prepared to be a successful Tango dancer or Tango instructor. What is CDF Argentine tango? Canadian Dance Federation canadiandancesportfederation.ca What different Argentine Tango styles are there? Argentine Tango includes 3 types of dances: Tango, Vals (waltz) and Milonga. Tango is the most classical 2/4 or 4/4 beat dance. The music is often with a melancholic emotion, and the dance is most diversified with any elements in Argentine Tango. Vals is like a waltz. This produces a rather relaxed, smooth flowing dancing style in contrast to ballroom waltz where the dancers often turn almost constantly. Vals is characterized by its lack of pauses and continual turns (giros) in both directions. Milonga is essentially a more lively type in Tango which has a fast, strongly-accented beat and an underlying "habanera" rhythm. Dancers avoid pausing and often introduce syncopations and broken rhythm into their walks and turns. Milonga uses the same basic elements as Tango, with a strong emphasis on the rhythm, and figures that tend to be smaller steps, less complex than some of those dancing in some varieties of Tango.
